ROH on HDNet 10/19/09

Here’s the results from tonight’s Ring of Honor on HDNet:

Kenny King defeats Jerry Lynn via pinfall, with some help from Rhett Titus, and the middle rope.
(After the match King/Titus piledrove Lynn and he had to be helped to the back, no update on injury.)

Nigel McGuinness defeats Sal Rinauro via the London Dungeon submission.

Colt Cabana defeats Claudio Castagnoli via pinfall.

MAIN EVENT – ROH World Championship
Austin Aries defeats Bryan Danielson via pinfall after IED Dropkick knocked Danielson into an exposed turnbuckle.  Aries retains the ROH World Title.

Quick thoughts:

It just amazes me that the 46 year old Jerry Lynn can still hang in the ring with guys 20 years his junior!  This guy has talked about how pro wrestlers never really retire… well, if they’re as good as Jerry Lynn I’d still pay good money to see them on a regular basis.  It’s not like he’s wrestling against guys that do nothing but slow, technical, rest-hold type wrestling.  Lynn is working with guys that require jumping off the apron to the floor and running the ropes multiple times in a match up.

Nigel McGuinness is almost on the way out of ROH and on his way to WWE.  It’s nice to see him show his technical and chain wrestling prowess in his match up, but essentially anytime you see Sal Rinauro you know it’s going to be a squash.

I would like to see more matches between Cabana and Castagnoli.  I think that their match ups could be the most entertaining in all of wrestling if they really got into it.  Cabana always has prided himself on being a comedic type wrestler, but I would love to see Claudio embrace the idea and go all out.

Figured that Aries would win the match up considering that Danielson is on the last legs of his “Final Countdown Tour” before he heads to WWE.  Danielson and Aries put on a clinic.  It’s a shame that ROH has to let Danielson go, and I hope that WWE uses him properly, but when WWE comes calling, you better answer if you want to make the big bucks.
