WWE Bragging Rights PPV – Results

facebooktwitterreddit

I’m not one to admit this often, but WWE actually put on a good PPV!  And to top it off, WWE pulled the wool over my eyes when it came down to my predictions as well.  First off, before I get into the results, I have to say the ring set up looked sweet.  It was half RAW, half Smackdown, so literally, the rope colors were split down the middle, red and blue.  Anyways, here’s the results of the show and my predictions:

Intercontinental Champion John Morrison vs. United States Champion The Miz
SHOULD: John Morrison WILL: John Morrison

WINNER: THE MIZ (RAW)

This one I was a little pissed about.  The finish was practically the only way I could possibly imagine The Miz winning this match.  Morrison with match up in hand, went up to the top for Starship Pain, and Miz knocks his feet out from underneath him, and he falls to the mat “knocking him out.”  Miz gets the three-count and the bragging rights of “Not being Jannetty…” for now!

SmackDown Divas vs. Raw Divas Tag Team Match
SHOULD: Who cares!  WILL: Who cares!

WINNERS: SMACKDOWN DIVAS

After The Miz took the first match up for RAW, the pressure was on the Smackdown Divas to pull out a win to keep the brand alive.  The ladies put on a decent show, but in the end the power of Beth Phoenix was too much as she hit the GlamSlam for the pin fall.

World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker vs. CM Punk vs. Batista vs. Rey Mysterio (Fatal Four Way Match)
SHOULD: CM Punk WILL: Batista

WINNER: THE UNDERTAKER

While The Undertaker winning was a small shock to me, the bigger shock of this match up happened after the final bell.  Josh Matthews comes into the ring after the match to interview Rey Mysterio and Batista to get their reactions to how close they both were to getting the victory, when Batista said, “I think I’m tired of my best friend stabbing me in the back!” and then turned heel on Rey Mysterio.  He took his head off with a clothesline, and then threw him with some force into ringside barricade.

SmackDown vs. Raw WWE Bragging Rights Tag Team Match
SHOULD: Team RAW WILL: Team RAW

WINNERS: TEAM SMACKDOWN

Everyone who was in this match up at least got their one minute of in ring action.  I was a little perplexed when this one finished.  Didn’t we just a few weeks ago see that Jericho and The Big Show were at odds with each other???  Well, what happens at Bragging Rights, Big Show turned on Team Raw chokeslamming Kofi Kingston and KO Punching Triple H allowing Jericho to score the pin fall and the victory.  This gave Smackdown the Bragging Rights and a giant trophy.

WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. John Cena (One Hour, Anything Goes Iron Man Match)
SHOULD: John Cena WILL: John Cena

WINNER: JOHN CENA

By far this was the most entertaining match up of the evening!  It’s got a lot to live up to considering there have only been like 5 Iron Man Matches previously in WWE history.  Early on in the match, Cena went up and then Orton would pull even.  By 20 mins in, Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase came out to work over Cena allowing Orton the ability to get back in the match.  At the midway point, Orton was up 4 decisions to 3.  With 10 minutes to go Orton was up 5 to 4, but Cena was starting to make a comeback.  Cena had thrown Orton through the time keepers area, and then hit the Attitude Adjustment on Orton through the announcers table scoring a pinfall to pull even!  With 3 minutes left in the match, Orton avoided a shoulder tackle that hit the referee.  Orton then hit an RKO on Cena, but he had to wait for a new ref to come down to the ring, which allowed Cena to kick out.  Orton knocks new ref out of the ring.  The finish was as I expected.  Orton went for a punt, missed, Cena locked on the STF as the original ref comes back to life with under 1 minute to go.  Orton tries to hang on, but he taps with 5 seconds on the clock.  John Cena is the NEW WWE Champion!

The next few weeks of programming is going to be interesting.  Batista vs. Mysterio story line build up to a Survivor Series match up.  Will Randy Orton complain that he NEEDS to get his “contractually obligated rematch” on Cena, even though this was supposed to be their last match?  Who will be the next in line to take on The Undertaker?  If you can’t watch, be sure to tune in here for my results and reactions!  Till then!
