On day of all days to have a city-wide power outage where I live, this news comes across the wire! HOLY CRAP!
TNA Wrestling announced today that they HAVE signed Hulk Hogan at a press conference in New York in conjunction with Spike TV. I’m not really finding what role he’s going to be playing, but my best guess is that he’s going to be a brand ambassador for the company.
This comes as quite a shock to me! Just the other day an article came across the wire that Hulk Hogan was almost about to kill himself! WOW! He’s affiliated with Bischoff Hervey Entertainment Television… yes, as in Eric Bischoff! He did a lot of negotiation on behalf of the Hulkster, but he WILL NOT be involved in the day-to-day creative. He WILL be trying to help out get TNA new TV programming deals.
SOOOOOO… now that I’ve been practically hit in the face with a shovel and need to formulate an opinion on this, I have to say this could be a very, very risky move for TNA. As history has shown:
Eric Bischoff + Hulk Hogan + current TNA star, Kevin Nash = Tragedy (SEE THE NONEXISTENT WCW PROMOTION).
Will this be any different? Well, to put it simply, IT COULDN’T HURT! They’re already struggling with ratings, they have a deal with Spike TV for the next couple of years, and Hogan and Bischoff are NOT on creative crew, yet. TNA wants to be the best, well bringing in the most recognizable figure to wear your colors should be a good thing. My fear is that they become infested with problems due to Hogan and Bischoff. If things stay where these news articles are saying, then it shouldn’t be too bad. The biggest glaring problem I see at this moment is the money issue. Hogan doesn’t come cheap! Dixie Carter, TNA President, is happy to have him on board, but over time, will she start to grow less fond of Hogan as he starts to take away funds that could be used to sign new talent?
Time will only tell what will happen with TNA! The one good thing about this though, it proves that they are serious about going for the gusto and wanting to be in this business for the long haul. I can’t wait to see how Impact turns out over the next few weeks and months. This may revive their product and because of Hulk’s name, get them some free publicity!
