On this day in 2005, the wrestling world lost one of it’s brightest stars, Eddie Guerrero. It was four years ago today, that “Latino Heat” was found in his hotel room dead after what the coroners believe to be heart failure due to alcohol and drug abuse.
Now I really didn’t follow Eddie’s career too closely when it was actually occurring, but I’ve tried to catch up over the years with my video collection. He seemed like he was a very proud person when it came to his family and the business he loved. The characters he and his nephew Chavo Guerrero portrayed in WWE were absolutely hysterical with their low rider car coming down to the entrance ramp, and their “Lie, Cheat, and Steal” mantra! From my DVDs, I can remember what impact he made on ECW when they brought in the Cruiserweights from Mexico, and how Eric Bischoff practically stole them from Paul Heyman leading to the start of the fall of the company. I can remember some of the great matches he had over the years with guys like Dean Malenko, Ultimo Dragon, Chris Jericho, and of course, Rey Mysterio. I can remember when things went bad and Eddie started to get bitter about the business. The image that stands out in my mind is the promo he cut, which I think was a total shoot on Bischoff, where he was all pissed off about how he and the other Crusierweights were being treated in WCW, and he took the initiative for Bischoff and threw coffee on himself to save time.
I’m going to leave you now with a few Eddie Guerrero videos from Youtube. Some are tributes from the wrestlers, and some moments from his entertaining career. God bless Eddie and his family!
