WWE Tribute To The Troops 2009
Every Christmas holiday since 2003, the WWE has traveled overseas to perform for the U.S. troops! Last night was the airing of the annual installment. They had some of their superstars perform in the ring, hand out presents, and showed video montages of all the activities the military allowed them participate in during their time there from riding in helicopters to sharing a meal. Even the President, Barack Obama, had a taped video message for the troops. This year, the show took place from the Joint Base in Balad, Iraq in front of thousands of men and women in uniform.
Every time I watch these special shows I can’t help but get a little emotional. I’m very proud to be from the United States of America, and to see the faces of the soldiers who are busting their asses on a daily basis to keep us safe, it really hits home for me. I have/had family and friends in the military, and I feel so blessed that they have come home safe. They are the real heroes in this world, not actors, athletes, or reality TV stars. They deserve to be thanked as often as humanly possible for the job that they do and the dangerous conditions they deal with. It’s nice that some companies in this crazy world take the time to show the troops the respect they most certainly deserve and have earned with their blood, sweat, tears, and their time away from their families to protect us. For a few hours, the WWE got to help them take their minds off all the craziness that goes on and let them enjoy the moment, cut loose, and have some fun!
If you care to know who won the televised matches, here was the card:
- Rey Mysterio & Mark Henry defeated Carlito & CM Punk
- R-Truth dressed up like Santa Claus and had some of the Divas hand out presents.
- The Miz defeated John Morrison
- John Cena defeated Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship (Filmed before TLC PPV)
God bless the troops and their families! Thank you for everything that you do! Kick some ass, get the job done, and come home safe & sound!
