Weekend Wrap Up

AUTHOR: | IN: Wrestling | COMMENTS: No Comments |

So over the weekend there were a few news worthy notes that I would like to bring to everyone’s attention on this Monday morning:

WWE veteran Ludvig Borga (at left) passed away this weekend at the age of 47.  One of Borga’s claims to fame was ending the Native American, Tatanka‘s undefeated streak back in the mid 1990s.  The official cause of death is still to be determined.

Also if you did not hear the news from the tail end of last week, “Dr. DeathSteve Williams also passed away at the age of 49 after battling a second bout with cancer.  Williams was big in the 1980s and early 90s as a tag team wrestler with Terry Gordy.

Lastly of the obituaries, former Memphis wrestler Jim White also passed away this weekend from his battle with cancer at 67.  White was popular in the 1970s and at one point tag teamed with Jerry Lawler.

On the rumor front, I’ve been hearing that in the coming weeks we’re going to see a distinct change in TNA wrestling.  There’s talk going around that TNA will get rid of it’s 6-sided ring.  Well, according to wrestling-radio.com they’ve gotten confirmation from TNA head writer, Vince Russo, that it will be changed to a traditional ring.  This is slightly upsetting for me as I was a big fan of TNA trying to be different with the crazy ring.  I guess Hulk Hogan is trying to exert some of his muscle to get back to basics.

The WWE has released multiple young stars from their developmental contracts over the past few days.  Personally, I only recognized one name from the bunch, and that was DJ Gabriel who appeared on ECW at one point in time.  The WWE usually starts off the new year by cutting their losses on kids that can’t hack their style of wrestling in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), so I’m not surprised.

Lastly, I’m going to leave you with some happy news since this whole posting has been about death and loss.  ECW General Manager, Tiffany, and her real life boyfriend and Intercontinental Champion, Drew McIntyre, are engaged to be married.  Congrats to them!
