ECW on Syfy – 1/19/10

Last week, the ECW Homecoming came to an end, and last night we felt the backlash of that outcome.  Here’s what happened on last night’s program:

Video Package: Clips of the ECW Homecoming Finale, and the emergence of Ezekiel Jackson as the #1 contender for Christian’s ECW Title.

Tony Atlas introduces us to the Abraham Washington show, but filling in for Abraham Washington is Santino Marella.

• Santino comes out and tries to teach Tony Atlas some Italian, then introduces his guest, Vladimir Kozlov.
• Kozlov says that people don’t like him because he hung out with the wrong crowd… Santino thinks it’s William Regal, but Kozlov says he was in a Ukrainian biker gang for 3 years.
• The Russian says that people approach him on the street and ask him if he’s Ivan Drago from Rocky IV.
• Kozlov says that since he’s been in the USA he likes chili-cheese fries, Hannah Montana, and 24-hour Walmart.
• Santino suggests that because they have a lot of things in common that they become a tag team, but Kozlov and the fans say no!

Yoshi Tatsu & Goldust vs. Caylen Croft & Trent Barreta
WINNERS: Croft & Barreta via roll up pin fall reversal off a double team when the ref’s back was turned

Zack Ryder & Rosa Mendez come to the ring to make a major announcement, but first he reminds the crowd that he ended Tommy Dreamer’s career and taught The Hurricane a lesson last week for sticking his nose in his business.    He’s now demanding to be called the “NEW Heart and Soul Superhero of ECW” and has ring announcer Savannah come in and announce his name.

• Rosa goes on a tirade in Spanish on Savannah, all the while The Hurricane comes in and jumps Zack Ryder.

Video Package:  Three weeks ago, Vance Archer brutally attacked Shelton Benjamin.  This week on Superstars they’re going to square off!

Main Event – Non-Title Match
Christian vs. William Regal with Ezekiel Jackson
WINNER: Christian via DQ after Ezekiel Jackson jumped in the ring and attacked Christian from behind

• After the match, Regal and Jackson beat down the ECW Champion.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

The Abraham Washington Show with Santino filling in was random as hell.  Usually the “interviews” have to do with something to put over a story line.  This one just talked about random crap about Kozlov’s backstory.  The funniest being the fact that he likes Hannah Montana!  I couldn’t help but laugh at that one.  Plus they actually said that he reminds people of Ivan Drago and I’ve made that reference a number of times already!

The tag team match wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad.  Just an average match for me.  Didn’t really hold my attention for the duration.

The Zack Ryder major announcement wasn’t really a major announcement at all.  It was just a way to get his arrogant character some more heat and continue the rivalry with The Hurricane.

After a good solid match put on by Regal and Christian they had to go and have Jackson run in and ruin it!  Seriously, I saw it coming, but I hate the fact that they do it so often, especially with Regal and Jackson.
