WWE NXT – 3/16/10

WWE NXT is back on Syfy again with a full card of action.  Which NXT Rookies will better themselves and gain favor with the Pros, and who will flounder in the WWE spotlight?  Find out what happened last night:

Backstage: Matt Striker informs us that in two weeks, the pros will, for the first time, vote to remove someone from the competition.  All the rookies will be up for evaluation, and the one that the pros deem not ready for the spotlight will go back to wherever it is he came from.

Darren Young & CM Punk with Straightedge Society vs. Matt Hardy & Justin Gabriel
WINNER: Young & Punk via pin fall after Punk caught Hardy with the GTS and Young scored the fall

  • After the match, Luke Gallows destroys non-SES members… including Darren Young with the 12th Step/Gallow’s Pole.

Daniel Bryan vs. The Great Khali with Ranjin Singh
WINNER: Khali via pin fall after hitting the Khali Bomb

  • After the match, Big Show came out to the ring, Choke Slammed Bryan, and walked away.  I’m guessing that was a message from The Miz who was not in attendance.

Video Package: A closer look at “A-List” David Otunga.

Heath Slater vs. Michael Tarver
WINNER: Slater via roll up pin fall

  • After the match, Tarver attacked Slater from behind, hitting him with a T-Bone Suplex.

Backstage: William Regal trying to get a word in edgewise with his NXT Rookie, Skip Sheffield, but the “Cornfed Meathead” won’t shut up to get Regal’s advice.

Wade Barrett with Chris Jericho vs. Skip Sheffield with William Regal
WINNER: Barrett via pin fall after hitting a version of a Fireman’s Carry Slam

QUICK THOUGHTS:

I have to give props to Josh Matthews & Michael Cole on commentary.  Their back and forth bickering about certain superstars keeps me laughing the entire show.  I don’t know if that’s really a good thing or not, but for me it’s entertaining.

Out of the four matches, only one didn’t have any extra curricular activities.  Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not cool with that.  I know how it is when you lose something, and I know that emotions run wild, but c’mon… too many post match beat downs.

Well, the favorite, Daniel Bryan, is 0-4… Let’s look at how they came about:

  • Loss to Chris Jericho
  • Loss to Wade Barrett (wrestling injured)
  • Loss with The Miz (who was pinned) to R-Truth & David Otunga
  • Loss to The Great Khali

I cannot help but think that of all the guys in NXT, Bryan has had the toughest road, and in the process is showing how talented he really is.  Hell, he made a match against Khali bearable to watch!  Even in the short offensive flurry Bryan had, I was chanting the ROH fan chant, “You’re gonna get your F*****G head kicked in!”
