TNA Destination X – Results/Reactions

In the final PPV before Lockdown, TNA puts the X Division under the lights by bringing back the signature Ultimate X Match!  Along with eight other matches, the nearly three hour PPV was jam packed with action.  Here’s how things went down last night from the Impact Zone:

LADDER MATCH – X Division #1 CONTENDER MATCH
Brian Kendrick vs. Amazing Red vs. Daniels vs. Kazarian
WINNER: Kazarian via grabbing the contract

  • Great contest.  A lot of ladder spots as expected.  Kazarian finished the match by suplexing Daniels off the top of a ladder while his legs were stuck in two different ladders, then knocking Kendrick off to earn his title shot!  Great finish!

KNOCKOUTS TITLE MATCH
Tara (Champion) vs. Daffney
WINNER: Tara via pin fall after hitting the Widow’s Peak; After match, Daffney took Tara’s spider, Poison.

  • Wasn’t a bad match, but it wasn’t great.  I thought there might be more to it, but wasn’t.  The rivalry will continue now that Daffney has Poison.  Oooh, I just realized that means Daffney and Tara in a cage match at Lockdown..?

GLOBAL TITLE MATCH
Big Rob Terry (Champion) vs. (Brutus) Magnus [he wants to be known by just Magnus now]
WINNER: Big Rob Terry via pin fall after a Spine Buster

  • This was a total squash match and a total waste of time on the PPV.  Rob Terry is a piece of garbage and doesn’t deserve to have a job let alone a title for a mainstream wrestling organization.

ULTIMATE X MATCH – TAG TEAM #1 CONTENDER MATCH
Motor City Machine Guns vs. Generation Me
WINNERS: Guns via grabbing the X from the top of the Ultimate X structure

  • No surprises here.  This match stole the FN show!  Total spot fest, but well worth it!  Both teams went balls out and had the crowd going crazy!  I’m excited that the Guns got the victory and the upcoming title shot.  They deserve it!

CONTRACT MATCH
Scott Hall & Sean Waltman vs. Kevin Nash & Eric Young
WINNERS: Hall & Waltman via pin fall after Hall hit Young with the Edge

  • Well, there’s a little more to the story than just a simple finish.  Kevin Nash turned his back on EY and attacked him.  Old habits die hard I guess.  This really means that the NWO, at least for these three, is “for life!”  I am not FN happy about this.  All three of those guys need to be out of wrestling.

X DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Doug Williams (Champion) vs. Shannon Moore
WINNER: Williams via pin fall after hitting Moore with a brick while the ref’s back was turned

  • This was the weirdest finish of the night.  I didn’t catch the brick being brought to the ring, nor did I see it until after Williams hit Moore with it.  I’m happy that Williams retained.  What was even more weird, was the fact that Williams cut a promo on Moore and the X Division, but at the end of it he grabbed a woman’s purse from the crowd and smeared a ton of lipstick on Moore’s face (to emphasize the fact that Moore looks like a fool with his whole look – mohawk, guy-liner, etc.).

TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Matt Morgan & Hernandez (Champions) vs. Beer Money Inc.
WINNERS: Morgan & Hernandez via pin fall after Hernandez hit the Border Toss on Robert Roode.

  • The friction between Morgan and Hernandez was evident in this contest.  After the match, Morgan hit his own partner with the Carbon Footprint and left with both straps.  I had a feeling this would be the downfall match, but this is only part of the spiral for the tag team champions.  I’m guessing Impact is going to be explosive for them.

Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson
WINNER: Angle via submission after locking on the Ankle Lock

  • This match was awesome, but the finish for this one was great.  Ref got knocked out, and Anderson went for the Warrior Medal again to cut open Angle, but he blocked, took out Anderson and cut him open!  The big mouth was bleeding all over the place!  Kurt slapped on the Ankle Lock and once the ref came to, it was all over!  Anderson cut a promo after the match trying to get into Angle’s head, so it’s safe to say that this rivalry is not over.

TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH
AJ Styles (Champion) with Ric Flair vs. Abyss
WINNER: No Contest; Match stopped after Abyss Choke Slammed Styles through the ring

  • Mid match, Flair (who was so injured from last week that he was in a wheelchair) distracted the ref and hit him in the eyes with pepper spray.  AJ used the time to hit Abyss with the TNA Title.
  • Hulk Hogan comes out with referee Earl Hebner to continue the match, and Hulk wheels Flair back up the ramp.  Match continued and Abyss “Hulked” up and that’s when the ring was broken.
  • After match, Desmond Wolfe tried to get involved, and Flair was brought back to the ring by Wolfe’s valet, Chelsea.  Both of them ended up in the hole in the middle of the ring with Styles.

QUICK THOUGHTS:

Reflecting on this PPV, I have to say that there were some bright spots:  The X Division shined brightly tonight in all three of their matches, Anderson & Angle continue to WOW the crowd, and the main event, even though it felt a little over booked pushed home the point that “the ring” is what’s giving Abyss all this power!

When it comes down to it though, I know in my gut that everyone around is going to focus on the negatives.  However, even the things I may have not cared for, like Nash helping The Band get their contracts, could be turned into a positive for the future.  These guys now have a ton of heat from the crowd, and my hope is that it wasn’t some grand plan by Eric Bischoff and they’re going to try to make the “bad guys” cool again.

The only negatives I want to bring up is the fact that you have some of the big names not wrestling on the show.  Guys like Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, and Desmond Wolfe didn’t have a bout and I don’t get why.  Also, what the hell happened to Samoa Joe..?  He would’ve been another name you could’ve had on the show, but he was kidnapped like 3 weeks ago and they really haven’t said or done anything to try to find him.

Looking forward to see what happens on Impact tonight!  Till then…
