Old School Raw…At the Worst Time?

by Wrestling

It’s Saturday night at 9:30. What better thing to do than blog about wrestling, right? Anywho, I’m not going to go into much detail about Raw from Monday because this blog is actually kind of a ranting blog related to this Monday’s Old School Raw.
First I do need to mention a few notes from Raw, though. We finally saw the feud break open between Brock Lesnar and Triple H. Lesnar had some great blood flow going out of the top of his head, which is always fun to see. wwe.com reported Lesnar needed 18 staples to close the wound. Ouch!
Also on Raw we in fact, did not see the Undertaker return like some were anticipating after making his return at a live event in Waco the Saturday before Raw. But how could you listen to CM Punk’s promo Monday night and NOT pick up on every jab at the Undertaker’s legacy. I fully expect Undertaker to appear this Monday though.
Finally I must mention the AMAZING match between Punk and Cena to close out Raw. (Yes, a good MATCH actually closed the show. Been a while, right?) Hate Cena or love him, these two seem to click. Highlights of the match were a pile driver from CM Punk to Cena and a Hurricanrana from Cena to Punk. (Vince was not happy with Punk using the piledriver, I’m sure.) A great match, though. Probably the last we’ll see between those two for a while, which is likely a reason they put on such a performance.
The main point of this entry was to do a little complaining about the timing of this Old School Raw episode coming up on Monday. Sure, it’s a fun show. Old set, old faces. It brings a lot of nostalgia to the older audience…but why now? WWE plans on doing a show 5 weeks before Wrestlemania that involves so much fluff and distance from current storylines when we have seen virtually NO set up for any under-card or mid-card? We don’t know the Shield’s involvement, we don’t know who Randy Orton, Sheamus, Ryback, Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro, Barrett, Kane, Jericho, or Daniel Bryan are going to be feuding with at the Grand Daddy of Them All? WWE is spending SO much time on their top matches that their actual wrestling talent is getting no exposure. WWE better have BIG plans for Dolph Ziggler the night of Wrestlemania, because the guy deserves it. Are we going to see Cesaro vs Miz for the 20th time? I hope not. And apparently Rey vs Sin Cara has been nixed, as well as the plan to set the record for most luchador masks worn at an event…Instead WWE has discussed replacing that world record with that of the world’s largest…Harlem Shake. Sigh. Good to see where the priorities lie. So that’s my complaint. I love Old School Raw. It’s a lot of fun. The timing though is just downright awful. Thanks for reading, hope you’re not spending your Saturday night reading this, though. If so, thanks for the dedication. Remember you can follow me on Twitter @colinkriegel
