After last night’s edition of Monday Night Raw, the card for WWE Payback is beginning to take shape. Entering the week, we were already aware of the WWE Championship 3 stages of hell match between John Cena and Ryback; CM Punk’s return in a match with Chris Jericho; a triple threat match between The Miz, Wade Barrett and Fandango for the intercontinental championship; and the divas title match between AJ Lee and Kaitlyn.
On Monday, two matches were added to pay-per view event and another match was modified.
In a match that was announced on Monday, Randy Orton will team with Daniel Bryan to face Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns for the WWE Tag Team Titles on Sunday. This match has the potential to go in many directions. The expectation is that The Shield will retain the tag team titles, though the story-line lies with the on again-off again feud between Orton and Bryan.
The second match that was announced for Payback, Kane will challenge Dean Ambrose for the United States Championship. Now that Kane has ended the Team Hell No! gimmick–he sort of is floating in between story-lines. That being said, Ambrose will almost certainly retain the U.S. Championship on Sunday.
The match that was modified was the triple threat match between Barrett, The Miz, and Fandango. Fandango reportedly suffered a concussion during the taping of Smackdown and will be unable to compete on Sunday. Instead, newest Paul Heyman client Curtis Axle will compete in his place. Expect Axle to claim the intercontinental title on Sunday as he continues to progress towards the top of the WWE roster.
Dolph Ziggler confirmed on Monday as well that his World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line in a match against Alberto Del Rio.
