Main Event Review: 1/22/2014

Main Event time, four days until Sunday’s Royal Rumble. Tom Phillips and The Miz on commentary.

Damien Sandow promo/R-Truth vs. Damien Sandow (Xavier Woods on commentary)

Sandow cuts a promo on his way to the ring. Sandow talks about the Royal Rumble and how he intends to win it, and the title at WrestleMania.

This match started fast, a lot of good early roll-up attempts. Sandow’s offensive-style is relentless, it’s pretty unique and he definitely brings something different to the match. Truth gets the win.

My Take: The commentary in this match was interesting. They spent most of their conversation on the Royal Rumble, but Woods kept saying he wouldn’t eliminate Truth until the very end, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Truth eliminate Woods and start a feud between the two. Good match here, Sandow deserves a push, and Truth deserves more air time in the right role.

The Bella Twins vs. Alicia Fox and Aksana

Good match here. Nikki pins Alicia Fox for the win.

My Take: The Bella Twins have reportedly been asking for a Divas tag team championship, this match showed there may be a reason for that. It feels like the Divas have been in tag teams more than singles recently, and I feel they are more impressive in that role.

Sin Cara vs. Alberto Del Rio

Good match here, their styles work well together. Del Rio gets the win in a back-and-forth match with the Cross Arm Breaker.

My Take: How many times have we seen this match? They do put on good matches, I will give them that, but it doesn’t matter. Seeing the same match too many times in a short time frame hurts the match, it becomes harder and harder to get into it.

Overall Impression

Not a bad show. WWE’s never going to impress with Main Event, but it’s a nice way to hold fans over from Monday to Friday.

I know it was stupid, but it think Truth was at his best with the Little Jimmy gimmick and doing the crazy antics. Like when he came out I’m that civil war uniform! LOL

    • Mike Smith

Being silly is definitely the best role for him. Santino draws big money for them, as does Kofi Kingston, just cause they’re not title contenders doesn’t mean they’re not valuable.

For those two yes. I loved Santino as a detective. Kofi…needs a complete do over. He’s stale!
