- As noted last week, WWE announced 667,287 subscribers for the WWE Network on the day after WrestleMania XXX.
We have been reporting that WWE has a goal of one million subscribers, but analysts were predicting a lot more. There was a feeling that any number below 850,000 wouldn’t be a good sign, but would be workable.
The investment community is expecting more growth over the years, with the idea that whatever was announced would be three or four times that within a few years. It was said that any number under 650,000 would not be good for the company. However The 667,287 number was not seen as a failure but was a major disappointment to both Wall Street and to those in the WWE. Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Andrews Take: This could be a very positive thing with the WWE network or it could be a very costly move by WWE. They are really saying screw you to the PPV providers as they are broadcasting PPV’s on the Network. If it does not work i will not say that it will break WWE, but it will hurt them for many years.
