ROH and NJPW Announce Matches for Global Wars

On Wednesday, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling announced a few matches for both of their joint shows that will take place in May. On May 10th, Global Wars will take place in Toronto. The next week, the two companies will run War of the Worlds in New York City.

While War of the Worlds will see stars from both companies square off with each other, Global Wars is going to keep NJPW matches and ROH matches separate.

According to, these are the matches booked so far for Global Wars. On the ROH side:

  • ROH World Championship
    Adam Cole vs. Kevin Steen
  • ROH Television Championship – 4 Corner Survival Match
Jay Lethal w/ Truth Martini vs. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Matt Taven vs. Silas Young
  • Scheduled to appear:
    • Mark and Jay Briscoe
    • Mike Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis
    • reDRagon (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly)
    • The Decade (BJ Whitmer, Jimmy Jacobs and Roderick Strong) w/ Tadarius Thomas
    • ACH
    • Cedric Alexander

NJPW has booked four matches:

  • Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jushin “Thunder” Liger vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Jado
  • The Bullet Club (AJ Styles and Karl Anderson) vs. IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada and Gedo
  • Takaaki Watanabe vs. Michael Elgin (#1 Contender for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship)
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship – 3-Way Tag Team Match
Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) vs. Forever Hooligans (Alex Kozlov and Rocky Romero) vs. Time Splitters (KUSHIDA and Alex Shelley)
The Young Bucks are the current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tat Team Champions, but they will be defending the title against Forever Hooligans on May 3rd. Whichever team wins that matchup will be the defending champions in this match.

It’s worth noting that this will be Alex Shelley’s first ROH event in just about four years. He last appeared for the company in NYC as a part of the Motor City Machine Guns, with Chris Sabin, in a DQ loss to Kings of Wrestling.

It’s looking to be an exciting card as ROH and NJPW run the first of two highly-anticipated shows. It’s a big show for ROH specifically, as they return to live iPPV on Ustream, before heading to PPV in June.

The wrestling world is buzzing about these two shows, and these two promotions certainly should deliver.
