On Thursday, ROHWrestling.com announced two more matches for Ring of Honor’s first live pay-per-view, Best in the World.
It was previously announced that Michael Elgin would take on Adam Cole for the ROH World Championship at the June 22nd pay-per-view, but now that match has some early company on the card.
Starting with tag team action, The Briscoe Brothers will take on the team of Matt Hardy and Michael Bennett (w/ Maria Kanellis). Hardy and Bennett, members of “The Holy Trinity” with Cole, have caused many problems for Mark and Jay Briscoe for the past year.
Hardy provided the decisive blow that caused Jay’s shoulder injury last year, causing him to give up the ROH World Championship. Hardy was also behind the attacks that Cole would have on Jay, after Cole won the title that Jay never truly lost. At Supercard of Honor, Hardy interfered in Jay’s first shot at the title since his injury, helping Cole retain. Cole then gave Hardy the “Real Championship” belt that Jay had custom made, and Hardy plastered his face on it. While Cole and Hardy were taking care of Jay, Bennett was keeping Mark at bay.
At Supercard of Honor, it seemed that Mark had Bennett beat, but Maria got involved in the No DQ match and helped Bennett pull out the win.
The Briscoes’ road to redemption should start now with them getting a win here. They are one of ROH’s most celebrated tag teams and it’s time for them to reenter the main event scene.
The other match is another with a lot of animosity behind it, as The Decade’s Roderick Strong takes on Cedric Alexander in a Submission Match.
Alexander was unable to compete at War of the Worlds, thanks to The Decade, but he will be back in time for Best in the World. Strong has a submission move that he uses quite often, the Strong Hold, but Alexander doesn’t have anyone that he is known for. I think this match will see Alexander try a few different submissions out, but he won’t find the right one, and Strong will find a way to lock in the Strong Hold and get the win.
