At WWE Payback, Sheamus will defend the United States Championship against Cesaro.
Cesaro has made a lot of noise recently, ever since he split from Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter, then won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, all in the same night at WrestleMania XXX. Then, the next night, when he joined forces with Paul Heyman.
At Extreme Rules, Sheamus was on the sidelines, relegated to the WWE Network Pre- and Post-Show panels, while Cesaro was winning a Triple Threat Match against Rob Van Dam and Swagger. Now, at Payback they fight over the same title.
Let’s get to the predictions:
Stephen’s Take: This one seems pretty obvious as well even though Cesaro would be a fun choice to put with the US title and maybe he rechristens it the European title just to give himself something. But I do think this will be quite the hard hitting and physical match and could be one of those show stealing matches. I love the work of both guys, so some high expectations are there for them to deliver.
Stephen’s Prediction: Sheamus
Marcus’ Take: This is an interesting match-up to try and predict. There have been rumors and grumblings of the “Sheamus heel turn” for a few months now, the possibility of him stepping into Evolution for Batista has been a popular one. I think in this match the two superstars will try to pull of the Stone Cold-Bret Hart double-turn from WrestleMania 13. Last year at Payback it happened with Ziggler and Del Rio as well. I see Sheamus holding on to the title, but maybe losing the match out of frustration and not letting go of his new submission move, Dean Malenko’s “Texas Cloverleaf”.
Marcus’ Prediction: Cesaro wins by disqualification with both superstars performing a double-turn
Mike’s Take: Despite being the US Champion, Sheamus feels like he is in the middle of nowhere right now. While Cesaro feels like he is well on his way to the top, even if it does happen slowly.
Sheamus needs this match more and I think he will win it. However, I don’t think there’s anyway Cesaro loses clean, even if he does play the heel in this match.
Mike’s Prediction: Sheamus
