WWE Main Event Review: Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio

Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio promo/Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio in a Last Man Standing Match for the United States Championship

Sheamus came out and said that he was going to retain his title tonight, then win the Intercontinental Championship at Battleground and merge the two titles. ADR said that the titles would be merged, but he would be the man to do it. Both men then traded trash talk for their match for the US Title, until Sheamus got sick of that and called ADR out.

Sheamus hit a Brogue Kick, and ADR failed to answer the 10-count. This was a brutal match, which featured Sheamus putting ADR through a table. Too bad we’ve seen these guys together too much, it’s hard to get into this match.

Chris Jericho w/ Renee Young

Just before this interview, Tom Phillips announced that Y2J would take on Bray Wyatt at Battleground.

Y2J continued the use of his great line about Bray, “Along came a Spider”. Y2J said that The Wyatt Family taught him a lesson last week when he returned and got caught up in the moment. He said he is going to return the favor and show Bray a thing or two about what can happen in the WWE. Never has a truer statement been spoken.

Nikki Bella vs. Naomi, Summer Rae, Eva Marie, Natalya and Rosa Mendes in a 5-on-1 Handicap Match

Cameron was supposed to make this a 6-on-1 Handicap Match, but she never made her entrance.

Eva Marie tagged into this match to save Summer, then she delivered a nice DDT to Nikki for the win.

After the match, Naomi and Natalya tended to their friend Nikki, but Cameron came in and attacked Naomi. Cameron then ran away, with Naomi chasing after her. I feel like I just witnessed a whole bunch of Total Divas spoilers.

The Highlight Reel w/ Bret Hart and Damien Sandow

Y2J and Bret talked about when Y2J first arrived at the Hart Dungeon, and when Bret’s sister Georgia made Y2J tap out. Y2J asked Bret about his greatest rivals, and Bret named a few guys, before deciding on Shawn Michaels, then HBK’s music hit.

Sandow came out dressed as HBK, or HDK. Sandow talked about how “he” was Y2J’s idol, as well as Bret’s son’s idol. He started to threaten Bret, but Bret knocked him out, then locked in the Sharpshooter, as Y2J called for the bell. This was a perfect segment. Nobody could do what Sandow is doing right now, he gets a new character every night and he masters it.

Overall Impression

This was a pretty boring show. Sheamus and ADR did their best, but that’s a stale match no matter what they do. The Divas Match tried, but it was more about some minor storyline advancement than anything else. The final segment was good, but it wasn’t enough to save the show from being a thumbs down.
