It is very unfortunate to see what has happened to former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Bryan.
He had the run of his life over the past year in WWE. He got over with fans so well through The Authority story-line that he was placed in, constantly getting people on their feet to chance “Yes!” repeatedly. He would end up reaching the mountain top at Wrestlemania 30 when he would first beat COO Triple H to reach the main event of the show for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He would beat Batista and Randy Orton for the title, securing his “Wrestlemania Moment.”
He would face Kane in a brief feud for the title following that but nothing else happened. That was because Bryan needed neck surgery and it put his status in doubt. It would cause him to miss the Payback pay-per-view, but officials thought he had an outside shot at coming back and not forfeiting the title.
The timetable for his return just never developed along with the feeling in his arms not being 100% still from the surgery. So he had the title stripped from him. There has not been too many updates on him since then, but during the press conference the other day regarding the burglary at his home, Daniel Bryan would say that he probably needs another neck surgery. The timetable for his return is unknown.
He needs to take as much time as possible to heal from these surgeries. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Edge had their careers cut short from returning too soon from neck injuries, only to hurt themselves again. It is a very scary thought for the bearded Superstar for whenever he returns.
Some say that his best chance at a return is the 2015 Royal Rumble, but that could be pushing it. He could easily be out until after Wrestlemania 31, which would be ten months by then.
As of now, he is being represented by his wife, Brie Bella, on WWE programming as she is going through her own story-line with Stephanie McMahon, leading to them likely facing off at the SummerSlam PPV next month. It’s one of the best story-lines involving a Diva in years.
While we would all like to see Daniel Bryan on WWE programming, he needs to take as much time as possible to rest and heal his neck injuries. Not only is his wrestling career at risk from this injury but his body is on the line here too. If he returns too early, one bad move could set him back once again. Here’s to him making a solid recovery.
