For those who have been complaining of Cesaro being involved in nothing of significance (including myself), you will get to see him compete at SummerSlam after all. He’ll face off against Rob Van Dam in the SummerSlam Kick-off Pre-show.
Cesaro hasn’t been involved in a feud since his battle for the United States Championship with Sheamus. He competed in the Money in the Bank ladder match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at MITB in June and most recently lost in the battle royal for the Intercontinental Championship at Battleground.
Following Alberto Del Rio’s firing earlier this month, the Swiss Superstar has taken over the “heel-who-makes-everyone-look-better” role. From facing off with Dean Ambrose to battling with his old Real Americans partner Jack Swagger, Cesaro has put on great matches with them. It should be expected that he’ll put on another good one with RVD.
Van Dam’s latest WWE run has been pretty dull. He was thrown into the Swagger-Cesaro feud back in the spring just to give him something to do. His only other significant thing he’s been involved in was the Money in the Bank contract ladder match.
With RVD probably taking time off after this PPV, this match is just to give him something to do before he leaves. It could even be the last time we see Mr. Monday Night in a WWE ring. With below-average TV time over the past two months and nothing to do, why would he want to come back and do this again?
Overall, this should be a decent match to open a loaded show that features Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Brie Bella vs. Stephanie McMahon, Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins, and much more.
Stay tuned for WWE SummerSlam tomorrow on the WWE Network and make sure you check back here soon for our predictions on the big summer event!
