WWE SummerSlam Predictions: The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship

facebooktwitterreddit

This Sunday, The Miz will put his Intercontinental Championship on the line, as he takes on Dolph Ziggler.

This rivalry started at Battleground, when Miz last eliminated Ziggler in a battle royal to crown a new Intercontinental Champion, after the title was vacated by an injured Bad News Barrett. Ziggler thought he won when he eliminated Sheamus, but Miz was hanging out outside the ring after getting knocked under the bottom rope.

Since then, Miz and Ziggler have had a few meetings, with Ziggler standing tall, and Miz protecting “the moneymaker”.

Who will come out as the Intercontinental Champion? Here’s what the Daily DDT staff has to say:

Rob Wolkenbrod’s Take: The Miz hasn’t been a bad Intercontinental champion so far, but he’s been far from perfect.

The build-up for the match hasn’t been anything special with Dolph Ziggler standing tall most of the time. There always seems to be a distraction involved in matches with him or Miz too. Despite Ziggler coming out on top most of the time, it’s too early for Miz to lose the title. The match at SummerSlam will just be for Ziggler to make him look better, which is the role WWE has been using him in for a long time. Miz wins via pin-fall.

Rob’s Prediction: The Miz

Stephen Ajamie’s Take: This has been a better feud than I anticipated.  Both guys are really working their best to make it become something more.  As much as I want Dolph Ziggler to win and get some momentum going, this feels like it will be The Miz and we could see these guys go again if The Miz wins by some cheap way.  Rolling up the tights or something along those lines.  I think it will be a match that goes under the radar when you look at how stacked SummerSlam is, but it will be still do the job that it’s intended to do, make The Miz a better heel with his cheap tactics of winning.

Stephen’s Prediction: The Miz

Jordan Campbell’s Take: Everything appears to be in favor of Ziggler blowing the top off the Staples Center with a victory over The Miz on Sunday. For months, WWE has teased the idea of Ziggler having a much deserved push but then that idea has quickly been thwarted. Since his return, The Miz’s Hollywood character has been poorly received. Ziggler has been in this position before, and the last time, a punt to head by Alberto Del Rio buried his push. WWE has become professionals at keeping Ziggler down. Will they continue that trend on Sunday? No. WWE is pushing fans to renew their WWE Network subscriptions. That would be why they will let Ziggler have his moment on Sunday and defeat The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship.

Jordan’s Prediction: Dolph Ziggler

Marcus Hagness’ Take: I’m very excited for this match and really hope it opens the show. The Miz doesn’t get the respect he deserves from a good portion of the IWC, which is a load of crap in my opinion. He’s good in the ring, good on the microphone, looks the part and FINALLY is working heel again. I see these two putting on a very good match that people won’t forget about. Both of them are guys that want back in to the world title picture and will likely do anything and everything they can to make a statement.

The Miz will win this match in the end, in my opinion. He just got the title a month ago and is doing a great job in his “new” role. I’ve been waiting for him to get this type of gimmick back for awhile and couldn’t be happier they’re letting him go with it.

Marcus’ Prediction: The Miz

Brian Rzeppa’s Take: This one really pains me given that I’m such a big fan of Ziggler, but I just can’t see The Miz losing the title this early on in his reign. If we were going by popularity, Ziggler would be the obvious choice but unfortunately that’s just not the case. I’m hoping that there’s a dirty finish, which would allow Miz to win but Ziggler to have another shot at the title.

Brian’s Prediction: The Miz

Mike Smith’s Take: I really want Ziggler to win, I just don’t see any way that he can.

Ziggler is nothing more than a pawn here, playing the “hell of a hand” role. He’s going to get the crowd involved, he’s going to get heat on Miz, and most importantly, he’s going to sell for Miz better than anyone else can.

Mike’s Prediction: The Miz

The Daily DDT staff has The Miz as a heavy favorite, with 5 staffers on his side, and only one going with Dolph Ziggler. What do you think? Can Ziggler pull off the upset victory? Let us know in the comments section below, and stay tuned for more SummerSlam previews.
