PWG Battle of Los Angeles 2014: Night 1 Results

This past Friday night was the beginning of Pro Wrestling Guerilla’s annual Battle of Los Angeles tournament. The winner of the tournament gets to compete in any match they choose, including a world title shot.

Two years ago, Adam Cole won the tournament and went on to beat Kevin Steen for the PWG World Championship. Last year, Kyle O’Reilly won and chose to battle Cole for the same title. O’Reilly came up short in that match, but would go on to dethrone Cole a few months later.

This year’s tournament will have 24 competitors, it features three former winners, two recently released WWE Superstars, and the first female competitor in BOLA history.

Here are the 24 participants in this year’s tournament:

  1. Matt Sydal
  2. Drew Gulak
  3. Trevor Lee
  4. Chris Sabin
  5. Johnny Gargano
  6. Brian Myers
  7. Michael Elgin
  8. Biff Busick
  9. Kyle O’Reilly
  10. Brian Cage
  11. ACH
  12. Zack Sabre, Jr.
  13. Rich Swann
  14. Cedric Alexander
  15. AJ Styles
  16. Chris Hero
  17. Chuck Taylor
  18. Roderick Strong
  19. Tommaso Ciampa
  20. Adam Cole
  21. Ricochet
  22. Kenny Omega
  23. Bobby Fish
  24. Candice LeRae

With 12 of them competing in their first round match-up on Night 1, here are the Night 1 results, courtesty of

  1. 2014 Battle of Los Angeles First Round Match

  2. 2014 Battle of Los Angeles First Round Match

  3. 2014 Battle of Los Angeles First Round Match

    AJ Styles defeated Brian Myers
  7. 2014 Battle of Los Angeles First Round Match
    Kyle O’Reilly defeated Drew Gulak
  8. Chuck Taylor, Kenny Omega and Zack Sabre, Jr. defeated Adam Cole and The Young Bucks

With one night down, we already have an interesting first round exit, that being Tommaso Ciampa. There’s also a shocking loss for Cole and The Young Bucks, who were on top of PWG, and now have lost their first match since they lost Mount Rushmore teammate Kevin Steen. This was also The Young Bucks’ first PWG match since they lost the PWG Tag Team Championship to World’s Cutest Tag Team.

Coming into the tournament, I predicted that the winner would be a man who made his PWG debut at last year’s BOLA, Johnny Gargano.

As evidenced by Cole and O’Reilly, PWG tends to push guys as the beginning to their biggest run on the independent scene, and I feel that they will do the same this year with Gargano.

Will Gargano make a run in the most-prestigious, annual tournament in wrestling? He’ll get his first round match on Night 2, stay tuned to Daily DDT for those results.
