WWE Raw Preview: What Direction is Hell in a Cell Going in?

More from Raw

Tonight features a new episode of WWE Raw that will hopefully triumph the last chunk of shows.

Last week on WWE programming, we were left with many more questions than answers about what to expect for next month’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

  • Will Cesaro get a rematch with Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship?
  • Where’s the Wyatt Family?
  • Who challenges Sheamus next for the United States Championship?
  • What is Dean Ambrose going to do with Seth Rollins’ Money in the Bank briefcase?
  • Will WWE bother mentioning that Brock Lesnar retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions?

For this preview, however, we’re going to focus on where they could go with the main event of Hell in a Cell. As of now, the candidates for that spot seem to be Dean Ambrose, John Cena, Randy Orton, and Seth Rollins, according to Wrestling Observer Radio.

"According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view will feature John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose in the opening match, with the winner going on to face Seth Rollins inside Hell in a Cell. The loser of Cena vs. Ambrose will wrestle Randy Orton later on the show, also inside the Cell. There is a lot that can be taken from these planned matches. Clearly, the absence of Roman Reigns has created an opening for Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins to be featured more prominently. WWE began teasing tension between Ambose and Cena on Monday’s RAW. Ambrose wrestling Cena on pay-per-view in a Hell In A Cell match shows the company is committed to give Ambrose a chance to prove himself as an upper-card singles star. The fact that the winner of that match goes on to face Seth Rollins (with Randy Orton being the consolation prize) shows how management currently views those two competitors."

It will be interesting to see if WWE shows signs of going in this direction tonight.

The idea of having Ambrose and Rollins battle in a cell makes the most sense out of all of this. Their feud has been going on since the beginning of June when Rollins turned on Ambrose and Roman Reigns to join the Authority and break up the Shield. They have brawled numerous times and have had two matches; one at SummerSlam and another on Raw last month. This could be the time to end this feud and putting them in WWE’s most dangerous structure would be the ideal scenario.

Putting Cena with Mr. Money in the Bank could be interesting as well, but with WWE always out to protect their face of the company, the match may not have an ideal end for the WWE Universe.

The only strange part about this plan is having Randy Orton as a consolation prize for this. It seems to just be a way of having him compete on the PPV is what would be another meaningless match for him. If this plan stays and Cena loses to Ambrose, fans will be forced to see yet another match between the leader of the Cenation and the Viper.

Pay attention tonight to see what direction WWE goes in with the main event of Hell in a Cell. Will it lean towards Ambrose-Rollins? Will they reference Lesnar at all throughout the show?

Stay tuned.
