Rusev, the Rock and the Road to the Top

After his altercation with the Rock on Monday night during Raw, it would seem that WWE really sees Rusev as a top level heel for years to come.

After making his debut during the Royal Rumble, it took until April to see the Russian representative make his full debut on the main roster. A squash victory over Zack Ryder set the tone for what looked to be a promising future, but how many times have we seen a new monster heel make a stunning debut only to be jobbed out when the higher ups lose interest in him?

Having been lost in the shuffle since that debut and building him up with feuds against the likes of Big E, Jack Swagger and Mark Henry, it’s been the last few weeks that have seen the Bulgarian born superstar pushed into a more prominent spot. Pitted against the Big Show, a perennial main eventer, if for nothing more than his massive size, Rusev has played the role of the dastardly foreign heel to perfection.

Whilst Big Show got the upper hand on his opponent after Lana interfered, there was then the international incident involving the Russian flag, which led to the Brahma Bull making a surprise appearance this last Monday.

Whilst some may have seen the Rock clearing the ring of the Russian as a bad thing, the fact the company saw fit to put the two men in the same ring says big things.

But would a feud going forward between them be a good thing?

Having pitted Rusev against various superstars who are doing there best to defend the honor of the USA, the adopted Russian has done everything to beat those opponents.

Recently coming to the ring wearing a supposed “Gold Star Medal” around his neck, there seems only one man that should return to drop him down a peg or two.

Only one Olympic Gold medalist has ever set foot in a WWE ring, how amazing would it be to see that man to return to vanquish the evils of Rusev and Lana.

That man is Kurt Angle. Whilst he has announced he’s sticking with TNA for the time being, how good would it be to see the Olympic hero back in a WWE ring?

Imagine the scene – a mystery opponent match is announced for the Russian – he stands in the ring and trashes the crowd – then Angle’s old theme hits and the crowd goes wild for his return.

Their styles would fit each other perfectly and a program between them could be the perfect way for Angle to finish his active career, whilst helping elevate Rusev to the upper regions of the company in the ring.

Whilst it would seem that the powers that be seem keen to get some form of rub for Rusev from the Rock, right now he’s only going to make sporadic appearances, his hectic Hollywood schedule keeps him away from being a full time regular.

Whatever happens, the one thing you can count on is that Rusev is on a road to the very top and he doesn’t look like leaving that road any time soon!
