Can Seth Rollins Be a Successful Face in WWE?

Seth Rollins has been a top superstar in the WWE for the past two years as a heel. Can he make a successful transition to being a face in the WWE?

The world of professional wrestling doesn’t have a lot that is 100 percent certain. Returns can come as a complete surprise, or at least their meant to be that way, and how people change over time is often hard to predict.

The number of wrestlers who have spent their entire wrestling careers as either a face or a heel are very few. Even fan favorites will often play the villain role or vice versa, even for a few weeks. So it was inevitable to see a turn for Seth Rollins to be turned into a face at some point in the WWE.

The change comes as a result as Seth Rollins was given the Pedigree by Triple H during the elimination match for the WWE Universal Championship two weeks ago on Raw. The storyline seems to be going in the direction that Triple H has decided to make Kevin Owens the new star and move on from his time helping Rollins be the top guy from 2015.

It seems like the long-term plan is to have Seth Rollins face Triple H in what could be a torch-passing match WrestleMania 33 in April. There might be a large group of fans who would get behind a revenge-seeking Rollins. But there are a few concerns with how the character’s transition to being a face would work out.

For one, there’s likely going to be a few other faces who aren’t going to be 100 percent trusting in Rollins. He did come across as a brash and arrogant superstar after cashing in the Money in the Bank contract to claim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31 in 2015.

For a long time, Seth Rollins was one of the most hated villains in the WWE Universe. Rollins was the man who ended The Shield faction with Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. He would then join The Authority as their top guy, which benefitted him in feuds with both of his former “brothers” and other top names in the WWE.

He’s not likely to find people supporting him in potential tag team matches in the coming weeks. Reigns isn’t likely to trust him very much, nor is a majority of the Raw roster. Having the support of heel authority figures for nearly two years will have that kind of effect. With that kind of track record, it might be hard to imagine him as a face.

While he had been a heel on the independent circuit before signing with WWE, Seth Rollins showed a lot more charisma as a heel champion. As a face in WWE developmental – both in Florida Championship Wrestling and NXT – he was the fan favorite who did a one-man mosh pit before coming to the ring.

The WWE could have him revert back to that mentality, but it would be an adjustment for many WWE fans who never saw him during the time in WWE developmental. They’ve usually seen him as a heel both with The Shield and as a singles superstar. Either way, it might help Rollins’ case to become a face by changing his finishing move and attire.

Can Seth Rollins Be a successful face in the WWE? The answer is yes, but the changes should be subtle and take time.
