WWE Backlash 2016: Who Should Win the Six-Pack Challenge?

WWE Backlash sets up interesting scenarios for the Women’s Championship.

The Six-Pack Challenge at Backlash holds all the cards for the women’s division.  The future of the division depends on the outcome of this match.  There is so much riding on this match but there are a variety of winners that can push this match in different directions.  The three main options to go with in this match and those are with Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, or Carmella.

All three women have legitimate claims to be the first ever Women’s Champion on Smackdown Live.  From a fan’s point of view, it seems to be a matter perspective.  Do you want the proven commodity or one of the two women who haven’t seen championship gold yet?  Which woman will make Smackdown Live more must see?

Why Becky Lynch Should Continue to Kick Lass

Becky Lynch is the obvious favorite considering she was the first woman drafted to Smackdown Live.  She is one of the most talented but underutilized talents in the WWE.  With the other members of the four horsewomen being on Raw, this is Lynch’s time to shine.  She is the only member who hasn’t held championship gold in WWE.  For her to be the inaugural Live Women’s Champion, will take her out of the background when being compared to the rest.

She also has the wrestling lineage to immediately add prestige to this championship.  One of the biggest issues of bringing in a completely identical championship is prestige.  With Becky Lynch’s established wrestling ability, it shows a new era of women’s wrestling through the championship.  The fact that she is an accomplished wrestler and face champion who wants to fight makes her different enough from Charlotte’s initial run.

This makes Smackdown Live the place for great women’s wrestling and champion who is willing to fight any women.  If Charlotte’s run continues, it makes Smackdown Live the must see show for authentic finishes in the women’s division.

Why Nikki Bella Should Reclaim Her Throne

After making her return at Summerslam, Nikki Bella was one of the front runners for a champion on SD Live.  She was arguably one of the best Diva’s Champions in history and her ability to improve is always a positive.  Bella after a difficult first run proved that she could wrestle with the other women.  Additionally, this could be one of her final runs after the almost career ending injury.

Nikki Bella was the longest reigning Divas Champion meaning that anyone who beats her will immediately become a star.  Although most of Charlotte’s star power was due to her time in NXT where women’s wrestling was revolutionized, her defeat of Nikki Bella added to her superstardom.

There doesn’t need to be a huge run here just long enough to make a statement.  The only issue is that this would usher in another transitional champion.  This has already taken effect on Raw after Sasha Banks had to take some time off to heal from nagging injuries.  Is it really smart to go for the exact situation that Raw is in currently?  I don’t think it is if Smackdown Live wants to differentiate itself from Raw even more.

Why Carmella Should Make the Women’s Division Fabulous

This is my dark horse in this match.  I have positioned her this way because no one is expecting her to win but what a great way to kick off her heel run.  The only issue is that this is already the status quo of Monday Night Raw’s division.

Either way her rivalry with Nikki Bella should continue after the six pack challenge at Backlash.  Her turning heel was a surprise and still leaves questions unanswered.  The build for the match has been the primary focus not the individual feuds within it.  Carmella turned against Nikki Bella but there was no principle behind it.  If Smackdown wants to better promote themselves as the place for women’s wrestling in WWE then there is no better way to do it than to have two women’s matches at their next pay-per-view.

I don’t really know how to feel about Carmella being champion but I have always felt that you can’t learn without being put in the spotlight.  Carmella has never been champion in WWE but in this new era, there is nothing like a new champion.  Also, allowing her to pair up with Nikki Bella when feuding over the next few months gives her primal chances to grow.
