WWE: Bret Hart Steps Up in the Heat of it All

Sometimes, honesty is too much, and Bret Hart learned that the hard way.

Last week, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart issued an apology via Facebook for the negative comments that he has spewed towards Michael Hayes, Seth Rollins and Triple H.  It seems that Hart has had a change of heart regarding his actions and decided to do something about it.  Either way, it’s a step in the right direction.

Hart has always been straight up and honest, maybe a little too honest in his opinions over the years.  Hart’s “take no prisoners” attitude gained the respect of many fans while it turned off other fans.  He addressed this in his apology, apparently realizing that he was coming across as angry and bitter – two terms many fans labeled him as; primarily when he went in on Rollins and his claims of being unsafe.  When he sounded off on The Freebirds two weeks ago, that was pretty much the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The Hitman has a right to his own opinion, and he has certainly earned the right to comment on matters.  Perhaps it is a learning lesson for him that maybe some things are better left unsaid.  Hart knows he took things too far and from there he had to make it right.  Along with his brutal honesty, Hart also has no problem talking out the issues.  He has done this in the past; his DVD with Shawn Michaels comes to mind.  While Hayes publicly accepted his apology, there is no indication whether Rollins or Triple H has done so.

I remember reading Hart’s autobiography years ago, and even then I deduced that he was one of the most honest wrestlers that have stepped into the ring.  He admits when he was wrong, and recognizes that he’s not perfect.  He is definitely not a saint, and it is amazing how much he has dealt with in his life.  For him to still retain his integrity with this apology really speaks volumes in a business that is cutthroat.

For now, Hart seems to be staying in his lane following the public apology.  Fans can only hope that Rollins and Triple H will follow suit in accepting his apology.  Rollins commented on Hart’s unsafe statement when they were first made public, citing that it did hurt his feelings considering that he looked up to Hart.  Perhaps a discussion can happen between the two in the future.

The only thing for Hart now that he’s owned his actions is that he knows from now on when to reel his honesty in.  Can I just say I loved how he put in who deserved to be in the Hall of Fame?  I agreed with that completely.  Those are the statements fans love to hear from our beloved legends.  Fans respect The Hitman and will hang on to his every word because they know the blood, sweat and tears he has put in over the years.

Legends such as Mick Foley and Stone Cold Steve Austin have sounded off on goings on in the WWE, and I don’t think Hart should stop offering his opinion because of his mistake.  If anything these guys offer insight to the storylines and help fans understand the business better.  With social media being a dominant powerhouse, you get closer to these guys than ever before.  For Hart, it is simply a learning lesson to grow from.  Now, it’s time to put the lesson to use and move on.
