Kenny Omega Makes Decision on WWE and NJPW

On the Thursday edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Kenny Omega is set to make his decision between WWE and New Japan.

Kenny Omega has been the subject of speculation throughout the past three weeks. This started days after he lost to Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 11. He sent out a tweet saying, he’s “stepping away” from Japan, and hasn’t been seen since the New Year’s Dash event on January 5.

John Cena then started trolling the rumors, followed by Triple H commenting. Then Seth Rollins name-dropping “Kenny Omega” in a WWE video, only to be removed, sparked even more interest.

So, what will Omega do? He went on Wrestling Observer Radio on Thursday to announce his decision. He said, he will not be at the Royal Rumble, is flying out in mid-February to discuss a contract, and only wants a one-year deal.

This isn’t a definitive answer by any means, but it seems like Omega will focus on staying with NJPW first. He said, there’s unfinished business there, so he may want to follow up on what happened at Wrestle Kingdom 11. Maybe that results in an IWGP Heavyweight Championship reign, the belt that alluded him earlier this month.

For those hoping Omega would be at the Royal Rumble, however, this won’t be happening. It should end any speculation of him being a surprise entrant or having any type of role on January 29. If he does jump to WWE, though, it probably wouldn’t be for a little while. We would still have to see if he decides to complete a new contract with NJPW.

The Kenny Omega decision seems like one that won’t shake up the wrestling landscape and keep everything at a standstill, for now. Do you think he will eventually join the WWE?
