Who holds the record for the most eliminations in a WWE Royal Rumble match?

The WWE Royal Rumble match is always one of the most anticipated parts of WWE’s year. This takes place in January and sets up the Road to WrestleMania, with the winner getting a World title shot at the show. Sometimes this turns into a main event spot.

Every year, the Rumble match tends to be dominated by someone; sometimes it’s multiple Superstars that stand out among the rest. One way this has been done is via eliminations.

Over the years, WWE stars who have racked up the most eliminations in a Royal Rumble match have gone on to superstardom. In fact, the three who stand at No. 1-3 in single match eliminations are some of WWE’s most well-known stars.

No. 3 on the list is Stone Cold Steve Austin. He set the single match elimination record with 10 in 1997. This also saw him win the Royal Rumble match.

Just four years later, Kane would break this mark by eliminating 11 competitors in the 2001 Royal Rumble match. He looked as dominant as any Superstar looked in this over-the-top-rope spectacle, something that would be talked about for the next 13 years.

However, in 2014, a young WWE star named, Roman Reigns eliminated 12 Superstars in the Royal Rumble match. This included his then-stablemates Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. Reigns survived until the final two, which saw Batista throw him over the top rope to win the match.

The mark of 12 eliminations may be one that holds for years to come, especially if Reigns keeps his current spot as one of WWE’s top stars. Someone else could always come along that WWE wants to give a major push in the Royal Rumble match, but that may not happen for a while. In fact, no one has really come close to 12 since this 2014 performance.
