WWE already has the 2018 Royal Rumble pay-per-view date and location planned before the 2017 show.

The WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view is typically one of the most exciting shows on the company calendar. It sets up WrestleMania feuds and even provides a No. 1 Contender to one of the World championships. In years past, it had been for a guaranteed main event spot at the Show of Shows, but with the brand split, things have slightly changed.

The 2017 Royal Rumble PPV is taking place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. WWE made this announcement in 2016. This returns the annual January PPV to this venue for the first time since the 1997 Royal Rumble match that saw Stone Cold Steve Austin win the battle royal match. He set the original elimination record of 10 at the time. This has since been broken by Kane (11) and Roman Reigns (12).

For the 2018 Royal Rumble, WWE already knows where the event will be. It will be returning to the familiar territory of the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA on January 28, 2018. The Rumble would last be held here in January 2015.

This match from two years ago is remembered by fans for controversy. There wasn’t an angle that transcended WWE booking, but the Wells Fargo Center fans gave one of the most negative crowd reactions for anyone that you will ever see.

The crowd booed Roman Reigns out of the arena the second his music played, having already been upset that fan favorite Daniel Bryan had been eliminated. Reigns would be showered with chants that were far from anything positive as he went on to win the Royal Rumble match. He even had the Rock, one of WWE’s most iconic names, help him fend off Kane and the Big Show to a smattering of boos as well when closing the show. When do you ever see the People’s Champion getting the thumbs down from the fans?
