Brock Lesnar is WWE Universal Champion but has gone on sabbatical once again. Instead of him, one of these wrestlers should carry the belt.

Brock Lesnar disappeared from WWE programming immediately after winning the Universal Championship. It’s like the fall of 2014 all over again; RAW’s top champion’s nowhere to be found. The ratings are bound to drop soon due to the post-WrestleMania decline, and the show’s in dire need of top talent to keep viewers interested.

Unfortunately, WWE have submitted to Lesnar’s contractual demands, which has led to him becoming Universal Champion without being a regular on the RAW roster. This will lead to several problems going forward, as it will weaken RAW’s overall popularity.

The truth is, no matter how much WWE might try and insist that titles don’t matter, they actually do. As a visual, whenever a wrestler walks out with a champion, it tells the audience, ‘this wrestler’s important/the best in their division. We should watch them carefully. This person’s the champion. I want to live vicariously through this person by buying merchandise supporting them.’

So when the top champion is someone that only wrestles on a part-time basis, it does more harm than good. In truth, the Brock Lesnar-Goldberg rivalry shouldn’t have ever involved the Universal Championship. It was a terrible decision to have involved that title, and now WWE’s going to be feeling the consequences of their creative foolishness.

By this point, everyone’s aware that Roman Reigns will find himself back in the Universal Championship picture sooner rather than later. This was made painfully obvious when he defeated the Undertaker at WrestleMania. So when Reigns challenges for the Universal Championship, it risks having less value. Lesnar isn’t likely to defend the belt any time until he faces Reigns, which will render his reign completely useless.

Instead of Brock Lesnar, here are five people that should’ve become Universal Champion…
