Chris Jericho Thanks WWE Fans; Says Goodbye for Now

Chris Jericho issued a goodbye to the WWE fans on Instagram.

On Tuesday night’s episode of SmackDown Live, it looked like the end of Chris Jericho’s latest stint in WWE. He lost the United States Championship back to Kevin Owens, who he won it from at Sunday’s Payback pay-per-view. Owens followed this up with a vicious beatdown of Y2J, including wrapping a steel chair around his head.

Jericho’s stint lasted from January 2016 to Tuesday night, spanning 16 months. His past few runs had been for a mere two or three months, so this latest one far exceeded anything the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rollah has done recently.

It’s also no secret Jericho’s band, Fozzy, is starting a tour this week, which lasts through June. This will lead to him being away from WWE for an unknown amount of time.

With everyone realizing this, Jericho took to Instagram to thank the fans. He provided this message:

Who knows when Jericho will be back, but what he just did, for the past 16 months, was remarkable. A piece of paper on a clipboard and a phrase, “You just made the list!” may have been the most over things of the past eight months of WWE programming, especially on a Raw show that’s received ample criticism since the brand split.

Jericho provided a memorable feud with Owens, as well. Their build started around SummerSlam, coming together as friends. They split during the Festival of Friendship segment, which saw Owens turn on his best friend. That created a match between them at WrestleMania 33, a rematch at Payback and last Tuesday’s third round.

So long, Jericho — for now. A clipboard will be waiting for you on Tuesday nights.
