WWE Extreme Rules 2017: Finn Balor Deserves Redemption Victory

Finn Balor needs to get back into the WWE Universal Title picture after his injury setback last year, to gain some redemption in having had to relinquish the title.

WWE Extreme Rules is under two weeks away, and Brock Lesnar is coming back into the picture. Five superstars are set for a No. 1 Contender Match at the event, with the winner facing Lesnar for the Universal Title at the following Raw PPV. Those superstars are Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor. Each of these men make for a good candidate for Brock Lesnar, however, the one that currently makes the most sense to win is Balor.

Balor became the first Universal Champion at last year’s Summerslam, however, in that match, he suffered an injury that forced him to relinquish the title. He has been out of action since then, and returned to WWE programming after WrestleMania. Since his return, he has not been in much of a storyline or really had a feud. Things got much more interesting when the Fatal Five-Way match was announced for a No. 1 contender for that title. Balor was naturally put into the mix, as he stated he didn’t lose that title. But its something he will have to fight for, and this match is the perfect opportunity for him to get a big redemption victory and go on to face Brock Lesnar.

On this week’s episode of Raw, Paul Heyman made an appearance and he chose to make that appearance with Finn Balor in the ring. This was a perfect opportunity to put the possibility of Balor vs. Lesnar on the table, and in true Paul Heyman style really sold that idea. The former NXT Champion also made his intentions clear, he plans to win the contendership and face Lesnar. Winning the big match is exactly what Finn needs to move forward, to gain a big victory and show that he belongs in the main event picture. Chances are he won’t win the title back just yet if indeed he does become No. 1 contender, however, Summerslam is not far away and on the anniversary of him winning the big prize would be the perfect opportunity for him to win it back by defeating The Beast.

The question is would it be believable for Balor to defeat Lesnar? Absolutely, it would solidify him as a top star and he is the right person to lead Raw forward after Summerslam. If Finn Balor does not win the contendership it would run the risk of him being back in limbo. He needs to gain that momentum back in a big way, and the way the storyline is now progressing for him it would seem to be headed that way.

At the end of Raw, he asked General Manager Kurt Angle for a match against one of the other participants in the Fatal Five Way match. His request wasn’t granted, instead he, will be in a Triple Threat match against Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt. If he wins that match next week, he will certainly become the favorite to win. Finn Balor is a once in a lifetime superstar, not only is he an amazing in ring competitor but he is great on the mic. Let us not forget the wild card that is The Demon King, which he will definitely bring out at Extreme Rules. The Demon King needs to rise again, and hopefully his full force will be felt in under two weeks.
