John Cena Promo

Before the match, Cena starts talking about his match next week with Rusev. He gets greeted with “Cena sucks” chants.

Cena goes into how Rusev isn’t going to take the fighting spirit out of him and how WrestleMania was not a fluke (even though Cena won off distraction).

Kane would come out for the open challenge.

WWE United States Championship Match
John Cena (c) vs. Kane

Kane goes after Cena immediately and shows his built up aggression from earlier. He would take control for the majority of the match in an effort to show The Authority that he can fight.

Cena would finally get an edge for a moment, until Kane grabbed Mr. HLR by the throat and choke-slammed him. Cena would kick out at 2.

As Kane went for the Tombstone Piledriver, Cena countered it and got the former Director of Operations up for an AA and hit it for the pinfall.

John Cena defeats Kane to retain the WWE United States Championship.

2.8 out of 5 stars – I have no idea why Kane was wasted for this segment. His aggression should have been shown against a jobber like Adam Rose to build him up for Sunday. Maybe this loss has meaning for later in the show.
