The Vaudevillians (Aiden English and Simon Gotch)

The first two words that come to mind when I think of the Vaudevillians is “instant classic.” Partly due to their characters being derived from the old days of black and white film with characters that come straight out of the Vaudeville era of entertainment.

The fact that the six-foot-one, 221-pound Simon Gotch has the look of an old-school strongman – complete with the mustache – combined with the theater background of Aiden English made this team a hit with the crowds at Full Sail University. The best way to have that instant success on the main roster is to have weekly videos utilizing silent film to promote their upcoming debut.

Both Gotch and English have flexibility with this gimmick because they can play the pompous villains or be used as babyfaces that the fans can get behind, should they choose to go with a comedy gimmick that resembles Laurel and Hardy or Abbott and Costello (i.e. “Who’s on first?”). While they are part of a strong tag team division in NXT, they might be more valuable on the main roster.

While the WWE has a roster with the Dudley Boys, New Day, Lucha Dragons, Los Matadors and the Prime Time Players, there is not a lot of depth beyond that with the Ascension not working out as planned and Tyson’s Kidd injury hampering the dream team with Cesaro. It’s also probably good for the WWE tag team division to have a large number of teams after certain stars return from injury in the event they ever decide to do a tag team tournament.

Depth is just the bonus benefit for WWE when, not if, they bring the Vaudevillians to the main stage.
