Bray Wyatt Must Win at Hell in a Cell
Excluding his participation in the Royal Rumble, Bray Wyatt has actually won more pay-per-view matches than he’s lost this year. The problem is that it’s hard to actually remember within which matches those wins took place. Here’s a rundown:
- Payback: Bray Wyatt defeated Ryback by shoving him into an exposed turnbuckle
- Battleground: Bray Wyatt defeated Roman Reigns after interference from Luke Harper
- Night of Champions: The Wyatt Family defeated Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Chris Jericho, with Braun Strowman choking out Jericho for the knock out
By all means, a win is a win, but none of those are very convincing victories for the self-proclaimed Eater of Worlds.
Roman Reigns will be fine. It’s clear that the WWE still believes he is the heir apparent to John Cena’s role as the face of the company. He already has cemented his reputation as a spearing-and-Superman-punching machine who is as close to being as unbeatable as John Cena without actually having to be John Cena.
Wyatt, however, has all the potential to be a mainstay as a villain for years to come, but he has yet to truly establish himself as a serious threat. Whenever the stakes are at their highest, it’s safe to assume that Wyatt is going to lose. Wyatt needs the win to shake that assumption.
It doesn’t even matter if it’s another instance of the lights going out and then coming back on with the entire Wyatt Family surrounding Roman Reigns. Last year Wyatt managed to sneak himself and a FREAKING GHOST into the Cell; I’m sure sneaking in three other humans is a walk in the park in comparison. If it’s merely a matter of Bray Wyatt needing the rest of the Family to win from now on—if that’s what it takes to make Wyatt truly dangerous—then so be it. As long as he keeps winning, the WWE will have a believable kryptonite for Roman Reigns for the long-term future. And judging by what this feud has done for Roman Reigns, it’s unlikely that he’d mind having Bray around down the line.
But there is someone else who needs a win just as bad, if not worse, than Bray Wyatt…
