5. Kevin Owens

Last Week: 6

Kevin Owens would’ve had a perfect month for October if he didn’t lose by count out to Reigns on SmackDown. The significance of that loss is that it accurately demonstrates Owens’ standing in the WWE’s current pecking order.

Don’t get me wrong, Owens is one of the strongest IC Champs the WWE has seen in a long time. He is the clear favorite going into any match with the rest of the wrestlers on the mid-card, and unless some formidable competition arises, he is poised to have a long reign as the Intercontinental Champion.

But as of right now, Kevin Owens has a visible ceiling: He can go no higher than the likes of Roman Reigns. As seen in his series against John Cena, Owens is good enough to pull off a win against the top dogs now and then, but the majority of the time he will lose.

Time is on Owens’ side, however. Given his hot start, it’s easy to forget he’s only been on the main roster for about half a year. That being said, it’s going to be hard for him to keep rising when he started off so close to the top.

4. Alberto Del Rio

Last Week: 4

After making so much noise with his massive return, it’s no surprise that things are a bit quieter for Del Rio this week.

The MexAmerica program with Zeb Coulter appears to be finding its legs, and in the meantime, Del Rio has been biding his time in a pair of so-so matches with R-Truth.

It hasn’t been all for naught, though. During this time, Del Rio seems to have developed a new finishing move (the brutal tree of woe double stomp), and, with a rare Jack Swagger sighting on Monday night, we may have insight into Del Rio’s next feud.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but right now it’s more likely that Del Rio is gaining traction as opposed to sliding back down the hill.
