Survivor Series (1998) – The Rock vs. Mankind competed in the finals of the “Deadly Games” tournament, for the vacant WWF Championship.

Much like in 2015, a tournament was held for the vacant WWE Championship back in 1998 which included wrestlers such as Steve Austin, Kane, and Undertaker, among others. In the end, it came down to Mankind and The Rock in fan favorite finals. The match didn’t stay in the ring for very long as the action spilled out to the crowd, at ringside was Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon (who was decked out in proper referee attire). Both men battled back and forth, with Mankind turning to using dirty tactics (low blows and biting). Foley’s big bump came when he tried to elbow drop The Rock from the second turnbuckle to the outside, Rock moved and Mankind went through the Spanish announce table!

Towards the end of that match both men went for their finishers with Mankind kicking out of a Rock Bottom, to which he gave Vince a look, locked in the Sharpshooter, and Vince – much like in 1997 – called for the bell without Mankind actually tapping out. A solid match, with a great ending as Rock turned heel by joining McMahon, and becoming “The Corporate Champion”.
