5. TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs

Date: Dec. 13, 2015

Venue: TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts

TLC was the most pleasant surprise of the year.

The card looked atrocious. Outside of a promising Triple Threat ladder match for the Tag Team Championships, the WWE Universe was in store for bland match-ups like Rusev versus Ryback and Alberto Del Rio versus Jack Swagger. This was to be capped off by a TLC match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship between Roman Reigns and Sheamus… Woo hoo.

But it turned out to only look bad on paper. The ladder match exceeded expectations, with Kalisto performing the spot of the night on Jey Uso with the Salida Del Sol off of a one ladder and through another ladder.

The show kept rolling after that: Dean Ambrose defeated Kevin Owens in a superb match for the Intercontinental Championship; Charlotte and Paige had a great match for the Diva’s Championship, too.

Even the Swagger and Del Rio match was good.

Reigns and Sheamus had an extremely stiff match that did far better than everyone anticipated, but the real magic took place after Sheamus claimed the victory.

The ending to TLC featured Roman Reigns decimating Sheamus, the League of Nations, and, most notably, Triple H. By the time the camera faded to black, the same crowd that booed him was cheering “Thank You, Roman.” It was a great moment in Roman Reigns’ career and possibly just what he needed to get his character back on track.
