10. The Royal Rumble
Date: Jan. 25, 2015
Venue: Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
This was almost the worst pay-per-view of the year. Practically everything on this card was terrible.
The Rumble itself was heinous: aside from the hugely unpopular victory by Reigns, the match also featured a Daniel Bryan elimination that happened way too early, along with a string of anti-climatic eliminations by the duo of Kane and the Big Show. It was the most painful hour of WWE television in 2015.
And, for the most part, rest of the card wasn’t any better. Other matches included the Usos versus Damian Mizdow and the Miz, the Bellas versus Natalya and Paige, and the Ascension versus the New Age Outlaws (what?). Just, ugh.
But the Royal Rumble this year had one match that was arguably the best match of the year: a Triple Threat for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship between Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Seth Rollins. The insanity of this match cannot be put into words, but there were plenty of suplexes and AAs, as well as a phoenix splash by Seth Rollins.
Although Lesnar walked out with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship still around his waist, he also sustained a broken rib from all the carnage. The match was a glaring bright spot in an otherwise horrific show.
