5. Kane and Lita

Not only was the Kane and Lita storyline between 2004 and 2005 controversial, it was also extremely puzzling, and outright bad.  So let’s break down what went down in this strange saga.  Kane becomes obsessed with Lita and begins to stalk her, first crime.  Matt Hardy, Lita’s ex, consistently comes to her rescue only to get beaten down by Kane repeatedly.  Lita begs Kane to stop hurting Matt but Kane says he only will if she sleeps with him and since that’s technically rape, second crime.  Lita turns out to be pregnant and it’s Kane’s baby.  Kane and Matt wrestle at SummerSlam with the stipulation that whoever wins gets to marry Lita.  Lita and Kane marry on RAW but only after Matt Hardy gets slapped around again.

And we’re not done.

Enter Snitsky.  The unknown giant got involved in this nonsense out of the blue when he booted Kane into Lita causing her to lose her pregnancy.  Third crime.  Suddenly, Kane and Lita were in love.  Because there’s always a future in loving your stalker, blackmailing, rapist.  Kane and Snitsky wrestle a series of matches and Kane is now, believe it or not, a baby face.  Eventually, Lita turns on Kane in favor of Edge, her then real-life boyfriend and finally a little bit of sense is made.

The Kane and Lita debacle took up a staggering 14 months of pure, unadulterated stupidity.  Let’s break down the amount of taboo topics they hit upon.  Rape, blackmail, stalking, abortion, adultery, and domestic violence.  I’d love to know how many people got fired over this storyline.
