Women’s Champion Match: Bayley (c) vs Charlotte Flair
Remember when we noted some potential frustrating things that may happen at Fastlane? This is potentially one of them.
It’s been complete head-scratching booking in the RAW Women’s division since the introduction of that championship. Not only that but it’s all been a bit lazy. Here’s the formula: Charlotte’s the champion; Charlotte loses the championship to a popular babyface; Charlotte gets a rematch on a pay-per-view where’s apparently unbeatable and wins championship back. Lather, rinse, repeat. It’s tired.
So when Charlotte won the belt back from Sasha Banks for the third time at Roadblock: End of the Line in December it seemed logical that she may carry the title all the way to Wrestlemania. There, maybe, just maybe, a baby face who the company truthfully believes in would not only win the belt but end her PPV winning streak on the biggest stage of the year. But then for some insane reason, they went ahead and put the belt on Bayley on the February 13th episode of RAW. Explain to me the point of that?
Now I understand that maybe the overall endgame here is to have Charlotte follow the same path her old man did and win a ton of world championships. But Charlotte’s only 30 years old. She has plenty of time to win more belts. There’s no way her PPV win streak will end at Fastlane which makes the title switch between the two utterly pointless. It would’ve been a much more exciting decision for Bayley to take the strap for the first time at Wrestlemania 33. Anyways, Charlotte wins and the repeated carousel with the women’s title continues.
