Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman

And yet another possible maddening scenario.  In Strowman and Reigns, we’re looking at two guys at completely different points in their career trajectory, yet there is a massive possibility that the guy trending downwards may win and face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania.  Granted a match with Taker is all speculation but it seems that one of these guys is on a collision path The Deadman.

Now, trending downwards doesn’t come even close to illustrating the long protracted fall of Reigns.  He was actually pretty hot for about a year and a half between 2012-2014 as a member of The Shield which included a brilliant performance at the 2014 Royal Rumble when he eliminated 12 men in route to breaking that record and was soundly cheered on by the WWE Universe.  But all that momentum came to a crashing halt when The Shield disbanded and Roman went off on his own.  We’ve talked about the fans resistance to Reigns at length before so there’s no need to spell it out again but just know that it’s still pretty bad.

Strowman, on the other hand, seems to be trending upwards.  He’s solidified himself as a legit monster and is improving daily inside the ring.  His popularity seems to be on the rise as well but to be fair, any time you screw Reigns out of a championship the way Braun did to him at the Royal Rumble, you’re going to endear yourself to the fans.  So would the WWE dare put Strowman over Reigns clean?  Probably not but they seem high on “The Monster” as well.  My guess is they’re not ready to sacrifice Reigns to elevate Strowman but they also want Braun to come out looking strong.  Don’t expect a definitive finish.

Result of Match: Double Countout
