Should Goldberg defeat Brock Lesnar for a third consecutive time, he will solidify himself as one of the greatest powerhouses in WWE history.
Having already conquered the conqueror on two separate occasions, why is it crucial for Goldberg to win yet again? The answer is quite simple; he has yet to produce a memorable encounter at WrestleMania. Burned out and frustrated back in 2004, Goldberg wasn’t in the right frame of mind heading into WrestleMania 20. That led to a match that many wish to go back and redo, and for the longest time we thought a rematch was never going to happen.
Then in 2016, fans everywhere were ecstatic when Goldberg was announced as a pre-order exclusive for WWE 2K17. In the past, legends such as Sting and Ultimate Warrior had made their way to WWE following their involvement in their video games. Fans wondered if Goldberg would follow suit, and the rumors grew when Brock Lesnar addressed the subject as well.
After what seemed to be an eternity, Goldberg made his return to RAW for the first time in twelve years. Accepting a challenge to face Lesnar at Survivor Series, we all assumed that this was going to be a one-off match. The Beast would avenge his previous loss, and in the process allow Goldberg to perform in front of his wife and child for the first time. Shockingly, the seemingly indestructible Lesnar was soundly defeated in just eighty-six seconds.
On top of the wrestling world once again, Goldberg has capitalized on this momentum to win the Universal Championship. Now he has a date with Lesnar at WrestleMania in what will likely go down as their final match.

So without further ado, here are the top five reasons why Goldberg will win at WrestleMania 33.
5. The True Conqueror
While WWE loves to tout John Cena as the only other man to defeat Brock Lesnar at two pay-per-view events, this fact is misleading. It is true that Cena has emerged victorious twice, however one of those victories (Night of Champions 2014) was via disqualification. Goldberg is the only man in history to PIN the Beast at two separate events. The first of these wins occurred all the way back at WrestleMania 20, and the second more recently at Survivor Series. Both moments were equally important as well as historic for WWE.
For those that feel Goldberg’s recent victory against Lesnar was a fluke, look no further than this year’s Royal Rumble. This time around, the Beast had plenty of time to prepare for his rival. Coming out at number twenty-six, he laid waste to every single man present inside the ring. When Goldberg eventually came out at twenty-eight, one could tell that Lesnar was ready for a fight. The two had a brief stare-down, which had everyone on the edge of their seats.
So what happened between these two at the Royal Rumble? Once again, the spear that Goldberg made famous throughout his career cut Lesnar in two. The move manages to take the wind of whoever gets hit by it, and even a freak of nature like Lesnar isn’t immune to it. All it took was one spear (and an impressive clothesline) to end the Beast’s night. Throughout their rivalry, there has been one common theme in every match that these two have competed in against one another. No matter the year or event, Goldberg always manages to stand tall over Lesnar.
4. Goldberg is Still in Terrific Shape
Despite being in his fifties, it appears that Goldberg’s physique is just as impressive now as ever before. No doubt this is due to the insane workout regiment and diet he maintains to this day. Staying in shape has always seemed to be an easy thing for Goldberg to achieve, and this stems all the way back to his days playing professional football. No doubt the training he partook playing that sport served him well when he started his wrestling career.
Come WrestleMania, a big question that is on the table deals with how Goldberg will handle bumping in the ring. Thus far he has been able to work short matches where the only requirement was to provide short bursts of offense. Since he’ll likely be competing in the main event, it’s hard to believe that his current pattern will suffice on the grand stage.
While he was never on the receiving end of a great deal of punishment during his career, years of wear and tear have probably caught up with the Universal Champion. Hence it’s great that Goldberg is in such terrific shape, as it will greatly enhance his productivity in the ring. The time might have passed for him to participate in his first ironman match, but he is certainly capable of taking part in an actual contest.
Once the doors to Suplex City open up at WrestleMania, we will learn just tough and resilient Goldberg is. Judging off of his past performances, it’s safe to assume that he will be more than capable of handling Lesnar’s offense. Their match is going to go down as one of the most physical encounters in the history of WrestleMania, and I doubt these two driven athletes would have it any other way.
3. He’s Already Elevated the Universal Championship
As Fastlane came to a close, the WWE Universe got to witness Goldberg win his third world championship. Destroying Kevin Owens in just twenty-two seconds, he sent a clear message that his recent dominance wasn’t just a matter of luck. All it took was one spear and one Jackhammer, and Goldberg stood victorious once again.
Regardless of how fans feel about the result, it can’t be denied that having Goldberg wearing the belt is “best for business”. Although it’s too early to measure the impact of this victory, one thing to expect is for old eyes to be drawn to the product.
In professional wrestling, an immersive and strong storyline is just as important as solid in-ring work. Ever since he returned to WWE, Goldberg has made it clear that he wants to be a superhero for all the children watching the product. No matter the obstacle, the veteran has managed to stand tall, cementing that belief to the fans
Whether this goes down as the greatest title reign in Goldberg’s career or not, the prestige that he’s instilled in the Universal Championship will be crucial going forward. Eventually, someone is going to come along and defeat him, and when that happens their reward will be two-fold. First, they will be able to carry the momentum that comes with beating a top-tier superstar like Goldberg. Second, they will acquire a Universal Championship that actually means something.
Since it’s inception at SummerSlam, the belt has not been seen in the same light as the WWE Championship. Men such as Goldberg will help to raise the value of the title, benefitting all the boys in the back.
2. His Pay-Per-View Record Speaks Volumes
Last Sunday, Michael Cole let fans in on an interesting statistic regarding Goldberg. The current Universal Champion has yet to lose in a one on one encounter on WWE pay-per-view. That is an incredible feat, especially when you consider that he has faced huge names such as The Rock, Triple H, and Chris Jericho at these big events. Most importantly, that list of victories includes defeating Brock Lesnar on two separate occasions. Everyone knows about the more recent encounter between Goldberg and Lesnar at Survivor Series, but these two also battled all the way back in 2004.
At the twentieth installment of WrestleMania, two of the greatest powerhouses in WWE history battled inside the squared circle. As an added twist Stone Cold Steve Austin was appointed as the guest referee, drawing, even more, eyes to the encounter. By the time the event rolled around tensions were at an all-time high, however, the men involved weren’t fully into the contest. The end result was a match that fell below expectations, but it was a marked the first time that Goldberg stood triumphant over the Beast.
On April 2, 2017, Goldberg and Lesnar will have one final chance to produce an absolute classic. Both of their careers have led to this one defining moment, and for Goldberg especially this isn’t something they can fall short on. They’ll have more eyes on them than ever before, as WrestleMania is one of the most popular entertainment spectacles on the planet. Next, to Chris Jericho versus Kevin Owens, this feud has been the most developed storyline on RAW. It would be a shame to see their last match go the same way as their first, however, it appears brighter things are on the horizon.

1. He Can Still Deliver the Game Changer
Throughout his entire career, “Da Man” has been known for unleashing two of the most devastating moves in wrestling history. The Jackhammer; his infamous finisher, has helped Goldberg defeat some of the greatest superstars in history. It’s the move that earned him all three of his world championships, and it was the final part in his destructive two-part attack. The set-up to his finisher was the spear, which Goldberg often delivered with such ferocity and power that he would break his opponents in half.

When Brock Lesnar went into Survivor Series, there’s no doubt that he didn’t perceive his opponent as that big of a threat. Then came the time for him to step into the ring with Goldberg, and one spear changed everything. Another one left Lesnar struggling for air, allowing Goldberg to hit the Jackhammer to earn a decisive victory. In just eighty-six seconds, Lesnar had aura had gone from untouchable to vulnerable.
No matter how hard Brock Lesnar trains for his upcoming match, he won’t last long should Goldberg make good use of the spear. That means he can’t go toe to toe with his opponent right away, and instead he needs to draw the match longer than he normally would. It sounds possible in theory, but as of this writing, Goldberg’s has only spent last than two minutes competing in singles matches. Nothing stops the Universal Champion when he is intent on achieving something, and that’s something Brock Lesnar is going to learn come WrestleMania 33.
