Not everyone can get an opportunity at their brand’s main title. But there are some who deserve a chance to show the company what they are worth with a mid-card title shot.

WWE has plenty of talented wrestlers on their roster, who haven’t gotten their opportunity shine, and show how great they can be. It’s unfortunate because many of the people on this list could provide entertaining feuds, and put on great matches as they’ve shown in the past. More importantly, the wrestlers on this list could add new faces to mid card championship matches.

Everyone deserves their moment in the spotlight. If for no other reason than to see if they will rise to the occasion or if they will falter.

If Jinder Mahal can get plucked from jobber level, and get pushed into the WWE Championship picture almost over night, then it gives these five wrestlers hope. That maybe one day, their hard work and determination will pay off, and they too will receive their title shot.

5. Jason Jordan

Former American Alpha member, and Smackdown Live Tag Team Champion, Jason Jordan was recently moved to Raw as part of a storyline that saw him become Raw General Manager Kurt Angle’s illegitimate son.

Due to this storyline, it appears Jordan is destined for a huge push from WWE. Jordan’s push will more than likely start off with a mid-card title run; The Miz better watch out. A feud between Miz and Jordan is enticing too. Miz would outshine Jordan on the mic, but Jordan is more athletically gifted than Miz.

The matches the two would have would be show stealers too. Ever since Jordan teamed up with Gable, he’s been an entirely different performer in the ring. Teaming with Gable gave Jordan the confidence boost he needed. It seems he is more comfortable trusting himself, and the decisions he makes, in the ring. Leading to better matches, because Jordan isn’t afraid to take chances with his talent.

The Miz’s “Miztourage” would be his advantage to counteract Jordan’s athleticism. Always interfering in the matches Between Jordan and Miz. With No Mercy being the next Raw Pay-Per-View after SummerSlam, a steel cage match would be the perfect way to kick off this feud.

Throwing Jordan into the mix will be something welcomed by fans. Mainly because they are tired of seeing Dean Ambrose and The Miz wrestle each other for the hundredth time. (I may be exaggerating on that number a little.)

Jordan is very gifted athletically, and always put on a great match when paired with former tag partner Chad Gable. So, it will be interesting if he can make it work on his own.

4. Chad Gable

The other half of American Alpha, Chad Gable, is still on Smackdown Live.

Gable put on a phenomenal match, pun intended, against AJ Styles a couple of weeks ago. (The match featured above.) The pair were battling to see who would gain entry into the number one contender’s battle royal for the United States Championship.

Styles would win the match. Even though he lost, Gable impressed WWE officials so much, that they plan on pushing him. Probably into a feud with AJ Styles, who is the current U.S. Champ, for said belt.

The pair has already proven they have great in-ring chemistry together. WWE should have no problem putting these two in a feud with each other. Gable would be the perfect guy to defeat Styles for the belt as well.

Beating Styles would give Gable the credibility to have a lengthy title run, and it wouldn’t hurt Styles stock in WWE either. Plus, it would allow Styles to go back to where he belongs, at the top of the card.

Gable could be a true mid-card champion. Always putting on great matches, and taking on all comers, he would allow other mid-card talents their time to shine.

The United States Championship is Smackdown’s mid-card title and should be held and competed for by other mid card guys. It’s supposed to be used to elevate guys into the main event and to challenge for the WWE Championship.

3. Tye Dillinger

It was rumored going into this year’s Royal Rumble event that “The Perfect Ten” Tye Dillinger would be making his entrance at number ten. When the time came, and his music hit the fans in the Alamo Dome erupted.

Now a relative new comer to Smackdown Live, Tye has been missing from WWE programming until recently when he entered a feud with Aiden English. It’s nice to see Dillinger get screen time, and hopefully, we see more of him.

Hopefully, Dillinger wins the feud against English and can move on to bigger and better things. his mid-card run is ways off still, but he could easily be challenging for the U.S. Title by WrestleMania 34, if WWE builds him correctly.

Dillinger is the reason for the ten chants at every WWE event. You know that chant the fans would do every time someone was being counted out. The chant was WWE fans way of letting the decision makers know, that we were ready for Tye to make his main roster debut. Dillinger was insanely over then, and he still is now. I’m just happy that since he’s made his debut, the chant has died down a little bit.

2. Heath Slater

Heath Slater has always been the guy on the outside looking in. He’s the goofy guy that just reminds you of your cousin who tries too hard to be funny but isn’t. When WWE allows Slater to be serious though, he shines. The WWE Universe has always been behind Slater, whether he was a heel or baby face.

He’s great on the mic, and never disappoints in the ring. Aside from his Intercontinental title shot, featured above, Slater has never been given the opportunity at a singles title. Hopefully, once Jordan beats The Miz, and Miz moves on to the top of the card, Slater can get in a feud with Jordan.

Slater is a veteran and could be the next best guy for Jordan to work with in WWE. No doubt Jordan will learn from Slater, and could easily put on great matches with him. It’ll just be up to WWE to pull the trigger on the two.

Once WWE puts the title on Jordan though, they likely won’t take the belt off him anytime soon. Still, though, a feud between these two could be one of the best of the year for WWE.

1. Sami Zayn

Was there any doubt?

“The Underdog From the Underground” has time and again been on the cusp of winning his first ever main roster singles title. In fact, Sami hasn’t held any gold on the main roster. I’m not pushing for Sami to be put into a tag team, even though I have no doubt he would knock that out of the park too.

Sami just needs WWE to get behind him. No doubt one of the best workers on the card today, Sami always manages to put on great matches with whoever he’s in the ring with. He even managed to have a great match with Baron Corbin. Something not many have been able to do.

It looked like WWE were finally going to give Sami the chance he deserved when they moved him to Smackdown. Fresh from Raw, and winning regularly on Smackdown. It looked like Sami’s woes were over, and he was finally going to get the push he deserved.

More from WWE

He was placed in a number one contenders match for the WWE Championship and was the odds on favorite to win. Going up against Mojo Rawley, Dolph Ziggler, Jinder Mahal, Luke Harper, and Erick Rowan. Everyone was sure Sami was going to win, and we were going to see him finally get his shot.

But, Jinder Mahal shocked everyone and pinned Sami to win instead, and ever since it’s been back to losing more often than winning for Sami Zayn.

The underground story only lasts for so long before fans lose interest. If WWE continues down this path with Sami, it won’t be too long, before every time he gets an opportunity fans automatically know he’s not going to win, if we’re not already there.

It’s a shame too, coming out of NXT Sami looked to be the next big thing in WWE. Ending his NXT career the night before WrestleMania 32 in a match against Shinsuke Nakamura. A match that was easily the best of the year for WWE. He even went on to put on a great showing the next night at WrestleMania in the Intercontinental Ladder Match that kicked off the show.

Simply put, WWE is wasting Sami Zayn, and he more than anyone else deserves a single title run. Sami could be the new Daniel Bryan. The reason Bryan got over so well and is so loved is that he eventually won the title, and overcame the odds. Sami needs to overcome the odds sooner rather than later. Or, fans may lose interest entirely.
