Singles Match: Randy Orton vs Rusev
It’s always nice to see a fresh pairing take each other on for the first time on such a large show. For Rusev, he’s been on the main roster for over 3 years and has yet to come face to face with “The Viper” until just recently and the booking was simple and smart. Rusev was looking for a match with someone he believed to be his equal and out stepped a 13-time world champion to take the bait. A couple of good promos and an RKO and this thing is good to go.
So how will things turn out? On one hand, a Rusev win makes sense. He really needs a big win to propel him into the title picture and after all, the guy has the goods to be at or near the main event. He’s got the size, the agility, and the mic work to pull off any type of feud and as an anti-American figure, the pay-off against a baby face is always great stuff. But on the flip side, Orton has lost at 3 pay per views in a row to Jinder Mahal, the first of those 3 defeats cost him the WWE Championship. Could someone of his stature stand to lose 4 times in a row, especially with this one being SummerSlam? I don’t think that’ll happen. Orton wins but look for this feud to continue into the fall where Rusev will get some revenge.
Winner: Randy Orton
