One of WWE’s greatest assets today isn’t even on the show every week. He’s still running the independent circuit as the United Kingdom Champion. They need Pete Dunne on WWE TV and soon. The 24-year-old may have all the time in the world, but his stock is soaring right now despite a recent injury. At NXT TakeOver: Chicago, Dunne didn’t just brutalize his way to becoming the United Kingdom Champion, he put on an early contender for Match of the Year that still stands.
Dunne was far and away the best part of the UK Tournament. Certainly, he was the most compelling story of the entire weekend. There is a lot of potential for Dunne on the main roster, especially given the angle that he will do anything to make a name for himself. He doesn’t need NXT, he’s already familiar enough through his appearances at TakeOvers and the tournament. Send him right up.
And while we’re at it, he should get the Kevin Owens treatment, going straight for that Intercontinental Championship, once he’s healthy and fit to fight. Assuming Jason Jordan takes the belt off of the Miz this Sunday, he can interrupt the heartfelt celebration between father and son. He doesn’t need to be cleared in order to cut a fiery promo. Jordan made a name for himself by turning out to be the illegitimate son of Kurt Angle. Dunne will make a name for himself by being the most legitimate threat this show has ever seen. The story writes itself and would actually give a satisfying finish to this Jordan/Angle angle.
