3. Brock Lesnar Retains

In the build to SummerSlam’s Fatal 4 Way for the Universal Title match, a lot has been said about Lesnar going back to the UFC. In fact, in a promo two weeks ago, Heyman doubled down on this rumor and claimed that Lesnar would leave the WWE if he lost at SummerSlam. The cards are infinitely stacked against him … well, only 75 percent. All things are pointing to Brock losing at SummerSlam. But something feels too obvious about the whole situation. Don’t get me wrong, WWE isn’t exactly known for their nuanced storytelling. But, in the WWE world, if something walks, talks, and acts like a duck, it’s usually not.

Case in point, at last year’s Survivor Series, The Brian Kendrick and Kalisto faced off for the Cruiserweight Title. The stipulation was that if Kalisto won, SmackDown Live would get the Cruiserweights and 205 Live. Because of all the reports that the 205 Live was going to be moved to Tuesday nights anyway, Brian Kendrick was certainly going to lose. However, Kalisto lost, 205 Live still moved to Tuesday, but the division continued to be featured on Raw.

More recently, we saw Kevin Owen’s defend his United States Championship against Chris Jericho at Payback. All signs pointed to a Chris Jericho loss. Owens had only won the title a little under a month earlier at WrestleMania 34, and Jericho was set to go on tour with his band. However, Jericho pulled off the monumental upset and won the U.S. Championship. Two nights later, Jericho lost the title and left to go on tour.

The similarities between these matches and the the main event of SummerSlam is the external factors. 205 Live still moved to Tuesdays and Jericho still went on tour. I think Brock will still leave for the UFC. So how do we get the title off him before he leaves? Well, if some rumors are to be believed Brock Lesnar will appear the next night on Raw. Perhaps some tomfoolery at the SummerSlam main event means a rematch the following night.
