The Jan. 8 edition of WWE Raw was a much-improved one for the red brand after a lackluster first Raw of 2018 on Jan. 1.
Last night’s WWE Raw saw several important storyline-based developments that will undoubtedly affect the red brand moving forward. It also featured the return of one of the brand’s top superstars.
Hype continues to build for the 25th anniversary edition of Raw in just under two weeks as well as the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and last night’s Raw did a nice job of raising interest in those two events. Let’s take a look at five key takeaways from the Jan. 8 edition of WWE Raw.
5. Special Entrant in Women’s Royal Rumble Match Hinted at Confirms Unpredictability
The announcement of the first-ever all-women’s Royal Rumble match was a monumental announcement in the annals of WWE history. The women’s revolution has taken off hugely over the past couple years or so, but now it will reach another level.
And with the details of the women’s Royal Rumble match being the same as the men’s match, many began to speculate on certain aspects of the match and how they will go. We know there will be 30 superstars in both matches, but what other similarities will we see in the women’s Royal Rumble match?
As it turns out, another key similarity was hinted at last night. Raw GM Kurt Angle was backstage on the phone with someone who he said would be a great addition to the women’s Royal Rumble match as a former standout women’s competitor. This all but confirms that there will be at least one, but likely more, surprise entrant in the women’s Royal Rumble match.
Surprise entrants have become a huge factor and anticipated moment in the Royal Rumble match, and now the same will be able to be said for the women’s match. How cool would it be to see a Lita or a Trish Stratus make a surprise return for the Royal Rumble match? That would raise the bar right off the bat.
Regardless of who the surprises will consist of, last night confirmed that the WWE universe should expect great unpredictability out of the first-ever all-women’s Royal Rumble match.
