Nicknamed “The Baddest Women On The Planet”, Ronda Rousey has shown us in a matter of months that she is the next “women’s champion.”
However, if given the opportunity to hold that prestigious women’s title, who could match up to her, be a challenge, and take her to her limit? We saw how she squared-off with the indestructible force, Nia Jax, by almost making her tap out. But it all comes down to passion, heart, and resilience.
Here are five possible future opponents for Ronda Rousey.
4. The Empress Of Tomorrow, Asuka!
In so little time, Asuka has done what most superstars couldn’t do. Asuka has held the NXT Championship for 510 consecutive days before having to vacate it on August 24, 2017, due to an injury. A fatal four-way match involving Kairi Sane, Nikki Cross, Peyton Royce, and Ember Moon took place to decide the next winner. Moon pinned Nikki Cross to win the vacant title, and Asuka was given the honor of handing over the championship to Moon in a respectful manner.
In 2017, Asuka became the first-ever Women’s Royal- Rumble Winner. These are things Ronda Rousey hasn’t experienced, which would give Asuka the upper-hand.
The possibility of a Rousey Vs. Asuka match, it’d make the next WrestleMania main event card for sure. You could even consider a submission match at No Mercy or some other possible PPV. Rousey will almost certainly win, but let’s say she didn’t and Asuka pulled off the biggest upset? The WWE Universe would go absolutely insane!
How would you feel if the “Baddest Woman On The Planet” lost to the “Empress of Tomorrow”? It would be a 50/50 reaction due to the high volume fans of “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. Two expert submissions: the Asuka lock and the arm-bar. Who do you think would be able to lock theirs in first? Asuka or Rousey?
With that said, Is Rousey ready for Asuka?
3. Alexa Bliss
She is five-feet-of-fury and the RAW Women’s Champion. Alexa Bliss has done a lot in her career as a WWE Superstar. On Dec. 4, Bliss beat Becky Lynch for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs PPV. But when Bliss isn’t competing inside the squared-circle, she is destroying lives and breaking superstars’ confidence on the microphone.
When Bliss was drafted to RAW, she became the new WWE RAW Women’s Champion by defeating Bayley at the Payback PPV. She had made a name for herself in NXT, but really became big when she was moved up to the main roster. Nicknamed, “The Goddess Of WWE,” her championship reigns prove that statement to be true. At the last PPV, Money In The Bank, Bliss fought and became Ms. Money In The Bank against all odds. Not that much later, Bliss cashed in her MITB briefcase after brutally attacking Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey during their match, to become a 3x RAW Women’s Champion.
That didn’t sit well with Rousey considering she was sure she had Nia Jax beat with the arm-bar. If anything, we’re likely to see a match between Alexa Bliss and Rousey at this year’s SummerSlam for the prestigious Women’s Championship. Being that Ronda is indeed a babyface right now, the crowd may be reluctant to see Bliss beat Rousey.
Unfortunately, Bliss doesn’t stand a chance against Ronda Rousey, unless she somehow takes advantage and capitalizes on Rousey’s temper, pulling off a big upset. Probably the biggest upset since Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker!
2. Becky Lynch
After being drafted to SmackDown in 2016 during the WWE Draft, Becky Lynch had accomplished a good bit in her career as the lass-kicking woman of straight fire. At the Backlash PPV, Becky Lynch won the six-pack elimination challenge by last eliminating Carmella to become the inaugural SmackDown Women’s Champion. Among that, She’s been in countless historic matches, such as WrestleMania 33, The Royal Rumble, the Money In The Bank Ladder Match, and a Steel Cage match.
Unfortunately, with WWE’s booking of Becky, she doesn’t get many title opportunities, but if for some reason we would get to see a match between Ronda Rousey and Becky, it would be an all-out submission match, probably at The Royal Rumble or WrestleMania. And kids, it will be as brutal as you’re picturing it in your head now,
The only issue with this match would be if somehow Lynch defeated Rousey by making her tap out to the dis-arm-her. The fans may not be all in for Lynch to defeat the baddest woman on the planet. But again, this could be the big break that Becky needs in her career.
At least Ronda will show up to her matches.
And making the list at number one…
1. Charlotte Flair
If anyone has done basically everything, it would be second nature, Charlotte Flair. In NXT, Charlotte competed in the tournament for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship, defeating Emma in the first round, Alexa Bliss in the semifinals, and Natalya in the final at NXT TakeOver on May 29th, to win the NXT Women’s Championship. Charlotte had always been the workhorse in the women’s division, always pushing the limits in all of her matches. With Charlotte’s athleticism, she became unstoppable.
At Night of Champions on September 20th, Charlotte defeated Nikki Bella in a rematch to win the Divas Championship for the first time. The first Divas championship match between Nikki Bella and Charlotte ended in DQ after the twin magic performed by the Bella twins, in which Nikki retained. At WrestleMania 32, Hall of Famer, Lita, re-introduced the Women’s Championship that would be put on the line in a triple-threat match between Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch. Later that night, Charlotte defeated Banks and Lynch to become the inaugural champion in her WrestleMania debut.
If that’s not impressive enough, Charlotte Flair had beaten The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka at WrestleMania 34, the match being Championship Vs. Streak. Charlotte Flair had ended Asuka’s undefeated streak at 914 days, by submission. The match ending in nothing but sportsmanship and respect.
Next: Raw's Tag Division Needs AOP
If we’re lucky enough to see The Queen Vs. The Baddest Woman on the Planet, Charlotte Flair would definitely get huge reactions from the WWE Universe, if she should happen to defeat Rousey. What would that leave for Ronda? Charlotte’s resiliency would be stronger than ever, but so would Rousey’s abilities.
Two superior women fighting to be the baddest.
