8. Shooting Star Press Misses, WrestleMania XIX

After his stirring victory in the 2003 Royal Rumble, Brock Lesnar entered into a feud with the WWE Champion at the time, Kurt Angle. This led to their excellent match that headlined WrestleMania XIX. The match is an outstanding display of technical wrestling skill from two of the best amateur wrestlers to have ever graced a WWE ring. However, this match will probably always be remembered for the one incident that nearly defined it for all the wrong reasons.

Deep into the contest, Lesnar scaled the ring post and climbed all the way to the top turnbuckle. Not being known for his aerial prowess, this seemed like an odd move and Brock appeared noticeably uncomfortable. The crowd were shocked when Lesnar launched into a shooting star press and completely misjudged the distance. With a sickening thud, Brock landed on the top of his head and immediately most in attendance feared that he had broken his neck.

Incredibly, Brock and Kurt improvised and finished the match with Brock emerging victorious and winning the WWE Championship for the second time. The fact that Lesnar finished the match despite nursing a significant concussion is a testament to the man’s toughness and courage. Angle and Lesnar embraced following the match, perhaps a display of relief that the botch hadn’t ended much more seriously.
